SNOOWWWWW DAY IN LONDONNNNNNN!!!!!!! We totally would not have had a snow day if this was Syracuse....but its not!
This would happen to us. CNN headline reads "Heaviest UK snow in 18 years hits international flights".
The best thing happened though, I slept through my alarm because I was up so late watching the Superbowl (3:30 it ended here in London), and Tara wakes me up at 7:56, as we were leaving at 8 for class (uh oh). I sprinted around my room getting ready (literally, the wind storm I created was enormous). 2 minutes later, Tara, Pammy, and Deborah, my Monday morning travel to class group, knocked on my door. The e-mail had just arrived: SU LONDON HAS CLOSED THEIR BUILDING FOR THE DAY!!!! Best news ever! I jumped back into bed and woke around Noon. Best day ever to have no school!!!!
Let me recap the rest of Love London Weekend. It was great! Saturday morning I participated on the Bike Tour. It was about 2 1/2 hours (my legs were killing me after). We biked all around downtown London, coming withing inches of the double decker buses. We passed some of the great sights of
London, and really had a great time! It was quite the work out. I wasn't sure if I was going to remember how to ride a bike, I think the last time I did ride one was back when I had that awesome backwards-hat helmet (remember that?) But the phrase is true: It's just like riding a bike. It does come back to you. (Is that even the phrase?)
Later that night, I ventured off the Ballet at the Royal Opera House. The theater was amazing! The show was the first professional ballet I attended. It was broken up into three different programs, with a 30 minute intermission in between each (plenty of time to enjoy a drink). Clearly everyone else had the same idea, and some man in line behind me looked around at all of the people wearing tuxedos handing over 50 pounds worth of drinks and goes "I guess the credit crunch hasn't hit here yet." I started cracking up! The ballet was very well done. I feel asleep a little during the first part, but thoroughly enjoyed the second two, and would suggest if you get a chance to go to a ballet when in
London, the Royal Ballet surely knows how to put on a show.
Sunday began at 3:00pm with a trip to Cirque De Soliel. I thought my fate with Cirque was officially doomed. The tube decided to stop (yes, completely come to a halt) in between two tube stations for approximately 5 minutes. I thought I was never going to make it Cirque.....again! But.....I did! I sat next to my friends Steph and Hannah, and the show was definitely worth the wait! The acrobatic moves the performers were doing was nothing short of amazing! I want to go back (or maybe just learn the tricks on my own and do it in front of a mirror).
Then it was off to bowling! We played two games, I scored a 143 the first round, and a 148 the second round (if you don't know bowling....that's a really good score......roll eyeing commence). Brian, one of the staff members at SU London and I competed against each other. He beat me the first game, but I won the second...so it was a split (pun intended). We will have to have a tie-breaker. I will keep you updated on my training regiment.
The Traffic Light
Look closely at the pictures. Love London weekend ended there....but mine didn't. I was off to Farady to make a conference call back to Syracuse University. There was an Student and Young Alumni Advisory Board meeting, and I had to participate via speaker phone. SU London will probably have a nice phone bill coming their way....oh well.
Then it was off to Duncan's Superbowl party! The first drink was on him, and he bought nachos for everyone. It was a lot fun! There was raffles, backward bingo, and the traditional superbowl boxes. I won...nothing.
I then fell asleep around 3:30am and well....you know the rest!
Bonus Story: I had left the Superbowl party a little earlier than some of my flatmates because of my 9:00 am class. I was sitting in my room watching the rest of the game (recap: Joe and I are the only flatmates with a TV in our room) when I turned on the news for a little to discover that all Central London buses were suspended for the night. I started cracking up imaging the rest of them finding out and walking all the way home. (They ended up making it home safely...25 minutes of walking in
the snow later lol)
Trivia Answer: Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Even though there is a sister older than him, if there is a younger male, they automatically override the females. Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, then...Prince Andrew (Charles' younger brother).
Today's Trivia Question: How many airports are there in London?
Londoner,
Sir Darren Nigel Goldberg III of Maida Vale
