Hampstead
And the view that made us take the room As usual, ages without any writing, came on here as I've been yet again bitten by the travel bug and just came back from Rome. Have a whole report on the trip, but thought I'd write about my London life a bit as so much has changed since I last wrote almost a year ago.
So I came back from home #1 determined to find a new place to live and was thinking about Camden Town, where I used to be all the time and would be a nice change as, for my non-Londoner friends, it's in North London and I had always lived in the SW.
I'd had this particular friend for quite a while, pretty much since I moved to the UK, and, the day after I came back from Brazil, he texted me to ask if I was back and wanted to catch up as it'd been long since we'd last seen each other. We did catch up a few days later (in Camden!) and I went back to his place afterwards which is in an area that I didn't know very well and is a lot closer to the city centre and Camden than I
thought and I really liked it, so I included the neighbourhood in my flat hunt.
About a week later, my really good friend Jess and I were exploring North London and, hanging out at Regents Park, we were thinking about how nice it would be to live around there and I think that was also the weekend she told me she wanted to move in with me (as she was living in the very west of London, Ealing- also birthplace of The Who!). Two weeks later we found this flat up the road from Camden, Regents Park (thus also beautiful but a little bit yob-infested Primrose Hill) and pretty much in front of the previously mentioned friend of mine. The view was absolutely stunning, especially as it was a beautiful clear sky summer afternoon and the room was more than big enough for two, so we said yes pretty much straight away after working out the money matters.
That was in June.
We're still living there, in Swiss Cottage, and really enjoy it. It's funny cause, when we lived in the other side of town, we were in Camden ALL THE TIME! But now that we live
so close, we don't feel like going there much. We did go during the summer a lot...
We had parties in our new place and they were a lot of fun. Everytime we go out we have a 2 or 3 people party in our room beforehand and we normally have a lot more fun than when we go out. Well, we do have a lot of fun anywhere, really, as long as the 2 of us are together because with us...there's no bad weather!
Oh yeah, summer! Besides our new place in a whole new area, my last term in college (got my PR and Marketing diploma!), various guests visiting from different parts of the world...I got a job in Ibiza! Was working around 15hrs/day for 3 weeks between the beach, pool and barbecues and made a lot of money from it. Went back to the UK on the 1st weekend for another V Festival, this time with Jess, where we saw lots of our fave bands, including Travis, who I absolutely adored live! Then stayed a 4th week in Ibiza with a family I used to work for, also made good money with them and had
a very relaxing time...after a month there, came back so brown that I was almost black! Back to my old
Europeanised pale white self now though.
Hmmm..what else can I say. Oh yes!! Had my first ever music business-related interview with the former drummer of Ultra! He opened a record label with the bassist and guitarrist and, after a comment from Jess about finding an Ultra song on my iPod, we thought we'd google them to find out what they've been up to, then I found Goldust Production and Jon on Facebook, so I wrote to him and he told me to pop in for a chat, which I did. Nothing happened out of there, but not only it was a real pleasure meeting him as he was really nice and we had a great 36min chat, but I already got something else going on.
Oh, I went to Morocco before I went back home too, which I might've mentioned before. The family I first lived with when I moved to London was going back to Australia, so they invited me to go with them for a week. We went to Marrakech and Essaouira, then came back for
the weekend and I went to Brazil and they went to Thailand on Monday. Lots and lots of non-stop tears from someone that cries about once a year the last time I put the kids in bed...still miss them a lot! There's not a day I don't think about them.
I also went to Ireland again to visit Aline who I had visited 2 years before. The little boy she looked after was all grown up and had a little brother who was the cutest thing! I had flown to Cork though, which I wanted to visit, but ended up taking the train to Dublin straight away and got back to spend the night at the airport. Will probably go back though...there's something about Ireland that makes me love it and I've always wanted to go everywhere there. Unfortunatelly Aline is not there anymore.
Besides V Festival, I also saw the Stereophonics again, the Backstreet Boys, The Hoosiers, Travis and Colbie Caillat and loved them all. Went to a few of The Album Chart Shows where I discovered but hadn't fallen in love yet with Duffy, saw The Feeling, Scouting for Girls and others . Have lots of
Dublin 2008
Hanging out at Trinity College other tickets for concerts this year.
The winter hasn't been too bad even though we got heaps of snow a few weeks ago. It was actually nice as most people had the day off, so Jess and I went to Primrose Hill to play in the snow and that place had never been so popular!! It was quite funny actually as there were people with sleighs (or at least cardboard pieces!), snowboards and even skis and goggles!!
Now the weather's getting better, today is beautiful, nice and sunny and warm...I'm wearing flip flops again!!!! Happy days...hopefully it'll last.
As for people, they've been coming and going. A few stay. A couple keep coming and going at very particular times and I wonder how long this will last...one I wish would finally stay, but am not that worried about it. The main things in my mind are Uni, career and lots more traveling. And it's a very good place to be.
