Alexander loves Nanna Harry to bits! LITTLE COCKY’S COMMENTS: The houses were really small and tiny, and they were all two storeys tall. We felt squished compared to being in our own house. Our Sheffield family was very nice, I liked playing cars with my little cousin Alexander and Playstation 3 with his Uncle Matt.
FROM GOANNA: Our first day in Sheffield was a quiet day for the travelling Cockys, as we were all feeling a little jetlagged. The weather was cold and rainy, which was fine as we were happy being largely indoors. After making a slow start on the day, we eventually managed to get our act together aometime around lunchtime, and headed around from Mark & Tracy's house where we were staying to Mick & Jean's house (Tracy's parents) for a proper round of meetings and reunions.
Goanna's brother Mark had landed in Sheffield as the first leg of a planned Euopean working holiday almost 9 years ago, fell in love with Tracy almost straight away, and has been living there ever since. He and Tracy now have a little boy, Alexander, who had turned 2 shortly before our visit. We'd never met Tracy's family, so were very excited to be introduced

We were excited to meet Tracy's mum Jean and Nan-nan May for the first time. to her parents (Big Mick and Jean), brothers (Little Mick and Matthew) and grandmother Nan-nan May. We were especially excited and nervous (what if he was shy??) to be meeting our nephew Alexander for the first time, and were thrilled that he took to us straight away, especially James and Baby Alice. xoxoxo
Goanna's parents, Peter & Elaine were staying with Tracy's mum & dad during our visit, so it was a real family reunion for us all. They'd just finished a 31 day Grand European Tour, and had gifts and stories to share, and plenty of news from home to catch them up on.
After a lunch of boiled ham rolls (we don't have ham like that in Australia) we headed out with Mark to Chesterfield. We needed to buy some cheap mobile phones for use while away, and also wanted to check out the cheap English clothing bargains for the kids, so Mark introduced us to the wonders of a Tesco Extra store. Until this point, we'd thought the new Costco in Melbourne's Docklands was big, but this Tesco store left it in the shade! Three new mobile phones were duly acquired for the princely sum

Possy liked her new dolly that Nan & Pop gave her. of 7.71 GBP each ($12.50 AUD), along with a bagful of cute outfits for Possy and some shirts for the Big and Little Cockys. Hehehe, not even a day into the holiday and the shopping has begun!
After our shopping spree at Tesco we headed to downtown Chesterfield to collect Tracy from her work at the Co-op department store. Chesterfield is a beautiful Tudor market town, characterised by the famous twisted wooden spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints. Sadly we didn't have time to explore the city, that will have to wait until another day.
Our dinner that night, back at Mick & Jean's, was a traditional Friday night treat of English style Fish and Chips - complete with mushy peas and curry sauce in plqce of our usual trimmings of tomato and tartare sauces. Even in such a simple 'bog-standard' takeaway meal, there were enough cultural differences to what we were used to that lifted the meal out of the ordinary to us.
