The trip to Lake district was no less than an adventure. My friends and I planned for a weekend getaway to Lake District. We started a little late from Nottingham on a Saturday morning. While on the highway, the Tomtom ( GPS navigation system) started giving trouble. We thought we were on the wrong route, but somehow kept navigating towards Lake District. Sometime around noon, the car broke down in the middle of the road and wouldn’t start. Amongst us, those who knew about cars, looked into everything that could have possibly gone wrong. Since they couldn’t figure out much, one of us called the car rental customer care and reported the problem. I do not remember what exactly they said, but help did not arrive. We were stranded there unaware of what to do next. However, after some time, when the friend who was driving the car tried to start the car again, it started ! Hurray !! We quickly jumped into the car and drove towards Lake district. By the time we reached Cumbria county, it was late and so we checked in into a guest house – Shemara Guest house at Keswick. Clean rooms with lovely ambience. With
nothing much to do that evening, we retired into our rooms.
Next day, after breakfast, we headed towards
Grizedale forest. We strolled around the Grizedale forest visitor complex for sometime before making up our mind to go cycling on the cycling trails. One thing I enjoyed most while in the UK was almost all tourist locations have one or the other adventure activity hosted and almost everyone is up for adventure. So, we hired bicycles and off we went. We cycled through different cycling trails for almost 2 hours and came back to the visitor complex. It was so much fun ! We rode through the forest uphill panting for breath and then let the pedals lose downhill, got lost and had to find the trails and so on and so forth.
Back from cycling, we were all starving having burned a lot of calories. Ate lunch at the visitor complex and on the go, made plans to go to
Go Ape next. GoApe (goape.co.uk) provides tree top adventure activities for both kids and adults. When I say tree top, I mean actual trees in the forest! If you love adventure, then I highly recommend GoApe ! At
the counter, we had to pay and sign the terms and conditions. 4 of us signed up for
Tree Top Adventure – 6 levels with every level difficult than the previous one. Tree Top adventure included zip lining over forests and roads and crossing barriers between tree tops to get to the next level. It sounded adventurous and it certainly was! With an adrenaline rush, the 4 of us started off with level 1 which included mostly zip lining. As the levels increased , the difficulty increased and I think it was at level 5 or 6, where one has to take a leap from a tree top towards a net almost 10 mts away and during this one, I was really scared and it took me almost 15-20 mins to complete this particular activity. Thank God, the people behind me were patient and waited until I could muster up courage to take the leap of faith! It’s a shame that I could not record my experience and I wish I had a GoPro then. You can get a peek of the adventure at
https://goape.co.uk/adventures/treetopadventure .It took us almost 2 -3 hours to complete all 6 levels and we emerged
victorious ! We each then got a certificate of participation. Ah! The experience! I give it a 10 on 10 .
It was almost late afternoon and we then headed to
Windermere lake for a boat cruise. We bought tickets for an hour’s cruise and went sailing. Beautiful landscapes, boats docked up at the shore all added to the beauty of the lake.
It was evening and we had to head back to Nottingham. Thankyou Lake district for giving me a wonderful experience to last for a long time to come.
