Well we are in Cornwall at last. Stayed in Dover just as a stop over after the ferry from Calais on Tuesday night (17th May). Didn’t do or see anything there...... looked a bit of a Devonport really!! Didn’t sleep much as the B&B had a window facing the main road and had a street light directly outside. Next day glimpsed Dover Castle through the mist in the rear vision mirror as we headed off to Ferndown in Dorset for another one night stay. Pity we didn’t plan much around Dorset as there seemed to be a few things to see in the area. We did however go through Salisbury Cathedral and did the obligatory visit to Stonehenge on way down to Cornwall. They have roped Stonehenge off so I couldn’t get in my Druid outfit and dance around within the “inner circle”. It was raining a bit and so just took a couple of snaps to prove we were there.
Ferndown B&B was in a nice quiet street; so had a better nights sleep. The only other claim to fame for this rural Dorset town is that it had a laundrette so was able to wash my “smalls”. Was worried for a while as I thought I may need to lower my standards further and extend it out to 5 days!
Cornwall is full of very quaint villages. Kept an eye out for Dr Martin and his medical practice. Was hoping he could give me an opinion on my hernia; but Jane said he is a TV character and not real. Anyway, we have driven miles around Cornwall (literally, as the UK is still not using kilometres which is confusing our GPS unit). Visited a few stately homes and eaten too much.
We are moving on to Bath tomorrow.... and the timing is about right. Nice as Cornwall is, I think I have seen enough shops selling cream teas (which is really a Devonshire tea with clotted or scalded cream)..... and if it isn’t cream teas its pasty shops. Also the streets in these small Cornish villages are a bit cramped, barely enough room for one vehicle. Jane's nerves are shot to pieces from the near misses
