Despite Christmas being over 3 weeks away, December started with two Christmas
parties! First was the work bash on 4th which was an Oscars themed evening. Good fun, and I tried my first herring from the Julbord (it was OK, but not my favourite!), but I did feel a bit like I needed to be a responsible adult... at least until the staff went home and Sara and I went elsewhere 😊
The very next night, we had the Meetup Christmas party at the Liffey... I wasn’t feeling in much of a party mood but it would have been awful to miss it! For various reasons (mainly that Bhavik dropped the ball), Simon and I ended up having to find a venue for the do with only a week to go. Thankfully we managed to sweet-talk the very grumpy manager of the Liffey to let us have their downstairs room for the evening. Which was just as well as about a hundred people showed up! I swear that half of them had never been to a Meetup before, but not to worry - it was a good evening to start. I think my favourite moment was when Bhavik came sauntering
up to me, blonde in tow and told me that he’d organised “all this”... What?!?!!
Only a few days later we got our first proper snowfall in Stockholm. It was like an urban Narnia 😊 It’s a beautiful city anyway, but even more so under a layer of fresh snow. The reality starts to wear a bit thin after a while - icy pavements, sensible shoes the whole time - but then a new batch falls and it’s all magical again! Of course, the sheer quantity of it made me a little nervous about getting home for Christmas...
I’d booked my Christmas trip back to London months ago to make sure I got a seat on the flights at a relatively sensible price... And then BA announced strikes over the whole holiday period! Cue nervous 48 hours when I scrambled around at work to try to get a seat on the SAS flights instead. And it turned out to be a wise move anyway - I’m not sure BA would have run quite so smoothly in the conditions as the Scandinavians 😊
Christmas was at Keith and Karen’s and was brilliant - it was a bit of
a flying visit for me, but it was a big family affair and so nice to catch up with everyone, albeit briefly. Keith and I managed to behave ourselves sufficiently that we didn’t have to cook Christmas dinner with an almighty hangover, we had competitive Wiiing and ate enough to feed a third world country. We even had a last minute honorary Jarvis in Ross, who had to work on Boxing Day so couldn’t get up to his folks in Scotland. I’m not sure if he’s told his mum yet that we did manage to feed him enough to fill him up 😊 But it was all over too soon and I had to fly back here on 27th in time to do the dreaded year end at work... On the bright side, I do get to see in the New Year with my Stockholm friends!
