Malmohus Castle
Old fortress, currently a museum I can’t believe I’m already at the half way point of my trip. I think it also feels weird because I’ve essentially only been in one country for all this time. The time sure has flown by though.
As I write this, I’m being serenaded by drunk Swedish girls, singing and dancing on the roof of the building next to our hostel - which coincidently ends up being right outside my window. Me and the other girls in the dorm are enjoying(?) the free show… they’re certainly amusing at least.
So, in retrospect having a 22-hr train ride from Abisko to Malmo… not the best of ideas haha. Especially when you’re stuck in one seat and can’t lie down. I slept most of the way from Stockholm to Malmo though, I was at the point I could’ve slept standing up haha. For the hour I didn’t sleep, I had bought the London Sun in Stockholm since it was the only English paper they had… ok, I was literally lol’ing - the way they write their articles is hilarious. For being news, it’s very cutthroat and humorous. I'll def have to buy that again next time I want a laugh.
So, by the time I got to Malmo I was ready to go! The city is beautiful - I easily could spend 3 days here, but I’m headed off to Goteborg tomorrow evening.
This seems to be a shopping mecca for some reason..? Unfortunately, I don’t have enough room in my bag to buy anything haha… that’ll have to wait until Oslo on the way back. Nevertheless, I had fun wandering around the city which is full of pedestrian streets and good old charm.
I love that they have so many walking and biking paths - and everything’s so neatly shown to you. (They put a picture of a bike in one lane, and an adult walking with a kid in the other) And don’t you mess that up… otherwise you will have a barrage of bike angrily “ding ding”ing at you.
Oh, another thing I love is that dogs are everywhere. You can take them on the train (there was a gorgeous Lab and English Setter not far from me on my way in from Abisko), on the bus, in a bunch of the cafe areas... I love it.
They have the “Turning Torso”
Baby geese
Awwww. Little balls of fuzz. which is a twisting skyscraper - you can climb it for a view of the city, but it was night when I went, so I settled for a photo of it. There’s also a super long bridge connecting Malmo to Denmark - it was so sunny you couldn’t actually look towards Copenhagen, but maybe I’ll see the other side tomorrow..?
There are a lot of beautiful parks too - there was this one weird statue with sinking deer (I think they were deer?)... I didn't get the meaning of that one haha. The Castle was cool - although I didn't get to go in there either since it closes quite early. I did however see a heron fly by - very neat, very majestic. There are a TON of birds here too - I had fun watching the babies (fuzz balls!) wander around. Tres cute.
There’s a nice little beach on the north-western tip of the city… I’m thinking that’s where I’m going to spend a good chunk of tomorrow. It’s nice to have real sunlight again… I mean, I haven’t seen dark for the past week or so (Midnight Sun up north), but it hasn’t been a
Statue in the park
Not sure why some of the deer(I think they're deer?) are only heads in the sand though... warm sun. When I got off the train in Malmo it was easily 25 degrees. Ah, I like.
I found a “MEGA ICA” … which is like the Superstore back home. I stocked up on fruit since the prices looked pretty good. Then again, considering I’ve been shopping in Norway, just about anything would look good.
So, like I said tomorrow I’ll prolly chill at the beach before heading off to Goteborg where I’ll stay for 3 days. Excited..!!
