Headed away from Simrishamn this morning. Pretty little town but woke up to a morning fog. Couldn’t even see the rock wall of the marina - only 70 meters away.
Watching the footy scores then Jessica called and let me watch the last minute of the game. Good result but a bit tight early on. Spoke to Pippa and Jessica after the game. Jessica said she would call later. We then called Stephanie. All good all round.
On the road towards our next stop. Just out of Kalmar in a place called Armund.
Expressways, then onto smaller roads and even in the middle of dense forest where the roads were a lot narrower than they needed to be. Waiting for the elusive moose to jump out but no luck - or misfortune.
Looked for a place to stop for coffee. We did a lap of one town. Nothing open so on we go. Nearly at our destination and see a big old house with a cafe open. In we go. Magnificent house. Order a cake and coffee. No cappuccino here but a welcome place to stop.
Find our accommodation down some very narrow roads. No one
at reception. Call the number, will be there in 10 minutes. We wander around a bit then a car pulls up. Chris asks if she was the lady who helped us at the cafe. No answer then we ask again. No, probably her daughter. Then she says she was there but in the background. I ask if she was in the kitchen. Yes, I had noticed her shirt - black with red flowers.
She points out our cabin and the way things work. Very pretty area with a lake that our cabin overlooks and we even have a vague view of the sea not too far away. Cabin is small but very new. It even has a front deck and a ladder to get out of the lake when you dive in.
Back into town for a look about. Find a castle and park the car. It shuts in half an hour so we decide to walk around outside and up the jetty not far away. Good walk but as we start down the jetty a sea fog starts to roll in. Eerie looking mist that envelops us and all the area around us. One minute you can’t
see a thing then it rolls through and everything is visible again. Amazing……
We had decided to get pizza and a bottle of wine to take back to our house. Pizza part seemed easy enough. Wine not so easy. The wine shops were shut but supermarkets have grog. Hmm, beers yes, wine no go. Sweden have tough rules around wine sales.
OK, we will eat out. Find a nice restaurant and line up. Sorry, if you don’t have a ticket for the show no go. Appears they had a jazz night and only those with tickets were allowed in. The waitress suggests we walk about 5 minutes down the road where there are lots of other eateries.
5 minutes was more like 10 but no matter. Found the old part of town and a few pubs. Picked one and sat, drank and ate.
The walk home was easier coz we knew where we were going. The jazz music was good when we got back to our first option. Next problem was that we had parked the car next to the cemetery. Ever walked through a cemetery at night. Waiting for the hand to come up and
grab your ankles. Didn’t happen. It was actually well lit so we weren’t too worried.
Found our way back to the accommodation and our little house. Now for a good sleep.
