20th October
Today we walked up the Cares gorge, from Poncebos to Cain, a 22km round trip. It was a brilliant walk with sheer drops, little tunnels and lots of goats. We also saw a wall creeper, the first I have ever seen. The path follows an amazing canal built in the early 1900's high up the gorge which flows through 70 tunnels and still takes water to the hydroelectric plant today.

On to Congas De Onis then up to the lakes at Covadonga. Beautiful lakes but probably terribly busy in the summer.
22d October
We had alook around the Sanctuary at Covadonga and then on to the coast. Found a great place just outside La Isla, right on the beach. We both went for a dip in the sea but Phill cheated and wore his wetsuit. It was very cold! Would love to stay here for a week but the forecast is not looking good.
