Tour Itinerary



Contiki Spain, Portugal & Gibraltar Tour 2000

Day 1 - Depart US

Day 2 - Arrive Madrid

After checking in to your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore the Spanish capital. This evening, meet your Contiki Tour Manager and fellow travellers.

Day 3 - Madrid to Cordoba

Today begins with a drive to Toledo, where we visit the Gothic Cathedral and see El Greco's house. We then head south into the heart of Andalusia and our hotel in Cordoba.

Day 4 - Cordoba to Granada

This morning will be spent discovering this fascinating old city including the Mosque of the Caliphs. Time to shop for famed Cordoban leather. We continue south past the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Grandeur of hilltop Granada.

Day 5 - Granada to Torremolinos (Costa del Sol)

The highlight of this morning’s sightseeing is the exquisite Alhambra Palace, we head towards the coast of Torremolinos, the most popular and lively Mediterranean resort on the Costa del Sol. Tonight why not try out the local cuisine with a specialty fish dinner?

Day 6 - Torremolinos at leisure

A full day to relax and do as you please - catch some sun on the gorgeous sandy beaches, go shopping or soak up the atmosphere at one of the resort’s many open - air cafes. Tonight, party Spanish-style at the local Tapas bars.

Day 7 - Torremolinos to Seville

Back on the road again passing the millionaires’ resort of Marbella and on to La Linea. We cross the imposing Rock of Gibraltar, where you have a chance to see the famous Barbary Apes which inhabit the rock. Then on to the sun - drenched sherry wine region of Jenez and the 1992 World Expo city of Seville. Tonight, why not enjoy the Andalusian cuisine?

Day 8 - Seville Sightseeing

Our city tour this morning includes many of Seville’s important sights, the Maria Luisa Park. Take the opportunity to visit the tomb of Christopher Columbus and the Giralda. Later tonight why not enjoy a spectacular flamenco show in one of the many lively nightspots?

Day 9 - Seville to Lisbon

Heading north we cross the Portuguese border, we stop at Elvas with its 16th century aqueduct before crossing into Portugal and its capital - Lisbon. Explore Rossio Square and later stroll out and listen to the haunting Fado melodies in the Bairro Alto.

Day 10 - Lisbon Sightseeing

The beautiful medieval quarter Belem Tower, monument to the discoveries and magnificent sweeping views over the Tejo River are included in this morning’s sightseeing tour. Your afternoon is free, giving you time to shop for Lisbon’s famous ceramic and cork products.

Day 11 - Lisbon to Salamanca

A scenic morning drive takes us into the Sierra d’Aire Mountains to visit the Shrine at Fatima, the scene of celebrated religious miracles. A chance to taste the local port before arriving in the lively student city of Salamanca.

Day 12 - Salamanca to Madrid

Time to explore this university city before visiting the walled city of Avila. As we enter Madrid a panoramic tour including Puerto Del Sol.

Day 13 - Madrid Sightseeing

Morning sightseeing includes a guided tour of the Royal Palace, plus an opportunity to visit the Valley of the Fallen. The rest of the day is free, perhaps visit the Bull ring or shop for leather or famous Lladro porcelain. Why not have a farewell dinner to mark the end of a memorable tour?

Day 14 - Depart Madrid

Tour ends after breakfast.
