On June 13, 2009, our youngest son (AKA "Thing Two") graduated from high school. My husband and I launched an "eeeevil plan" to spend a few years living and teaching abroad once Thing Two graduated from high school. After 23 years (the age of "Thing One") of being responsible parents, homeowners, etc., we decided that we were entitled to be selfish and do what we wanted to do, when we wanted to do it. We also have known too many people who made plans to travel "when they retire," but were never able to do so because one or both of them became ill, impaired, etc. Since both of us now make our living teaching online, why not run away and travel while working?

On June 15, 2009, we officially became "homeless." A few weeks earlier, we began selling our "stuff." We asked ourselves, "Is this item really worth the cost of storing it for several years?" In the end, we managed to whittle down 25 years of possessions to boxes that fit in a 5x5x10 storage unit - primarily art we've collected from our travels, photos, and stuff from the kids.

On June 16, we embarked on the first leg of our journey - Madrid, Spain.

Next week, we're off to Morocco! 😊
