We flew from Edinburgh to Barcelona then hired a car to drive the 150KM’s to Torroella de Montgri near Girona where our campsite was situated.
It was such a great holiday we barely left the campsite which is unlike us, I’d had a busy few weeks of travel with work before we left so I was delighted to only use the car to get us there and back with a couple of trips out into the real work for supplies to sustain us.
The campsite (El Delfin Verde) had everything we needed, we stayed in a lovely three bed bungalow in a quiet part of the site with access to a playpark and a paddling pool for the kids, there was a large swimming pool and a number of other playparks around the site and it had its own beach on the beautiful Costa Brava. There were good bars, restaurants and a very reasonable supermarket with a great bakery. There were football pitches, tennis courts, bowling and an athletics field – basically everything that the kids needed to keep them entertained for two weeks.
The best part about the campsite was undoubtedly the staff in the kids club,
the Animations Team. They were wonderful with the kids – we were really spoiled our first week as it was the end of low season and the kids were spoiled for attention, the second week was busier but still they were very well looked after and catered for.
Our older two went for a couple of hours each morning then joined in games at the pool after lunch, giving me and Fiona some time alone with Flynn in the playparks under the shade which we all really appreciated.
The activities team worked all day and night, every evening the put on a great show for kids and adults alike, we went almost every night and had a great evening each time watching their production of Mama Mia, Beauty and Beast and the Little Mermaid amongst others, it really was excellent entertainment.
Unfortunately on one of our trips outside we were witness to the aftermath of a horrific accident where an elderly cyclist was knocked over and killed by a delivery lorry – whose driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. We were about six cars behind the accident that morning and as
we passed the cyclist was receiving CPR at the side of the road but sadly didn’t make it.
Thankfully the kids never noticed the incident and we were waved through the scene and on the road home in minutes, the road was closed for the rest of the day not long after that while investigations took place so we returned to our campsite in a very sombre mood.
I love to travel and I love our holidays but no matter how great a time we always have I never want to go back to the same place – there are so many other great places to discover but I have to say this holiday was so fantastic that I almost made an exception, the day we returned I wanted to book up for next year!
After the dust settled and we got back into our routine again the thought of repeat-booking passed and I’m glad we are going somewhere different (Tuscany this year) and just hope we have as great a time as we did at El Delfin Verde.
