The entrance to the house I am staying at.After 7 hours in layovers, crossing 6 time zones on one flight, trying to find 5 others in an airport without means of communication, 4 hour bus ride, 3 flights, 2 last minute gate changes, and 1 Alexis lugging around a heavy carry-on, I finally made it to Madrid. My travels started with me waking up at the horrible hour of 3 in the morning to go to the airport and catch my 6-o-clock flight. After many tears, goodbyes and I love you’s, and TSA pat downs, I finally arrived in Charlotte from Pensacola. Luckily I had about two hours to roam around; otherwise I would have missed where it said my flight gate had changed. After finding the right gate and waiting, I hopped onto my next flight to Philadelphia. I was just getting the hang of being on my own when I realized that I had a five hour layover. I spent most of the time roaming the airport, deciding if I needed any candy, finding my new flight gate, staring off into space, and trying to read. Finally, those grueling hours were up, and I was on my way to Madrid. Within the first four minutes of my
My roommovie, my head phones broke off into the jack. Luckily I was able to remove the piece and receive a new set of head phones. After seven hours, I finally landed in Madrid. Getting through passport control was easy, so was finding my suitcase; however finding my professor and fellow classmate was the hard part. After searching and developing a plan on how to get to the meeting point, I saw them standing by a wall. I lead the way to get to the other terminal and found the meeting point, leaving my professor in awestruck wonder at my ability to look at signs and find my way (all thanks to God and my grandparents). Two ladies in our group had a delayed flight and were not able to make it to the meeting point in time, so the rest of us went ahead and took almost 4 hour bus ride from Madrid to Salamanca. Once arriving in Salamanca, my host mom took me away to show me how to walk to from the school to her home, dragging my luggage. Once making it Rosario and Jose Antonio’s casa, I was able to eat lunch and take a 30 minute
Beautiful park I pass by everyday.nap. My host family does not speak a word of English, so it is very interesting communicating with Rosario. When I do not understand, she will try to simplify what she is saying so I can understand. I am doing okay with the language, but boy I cannot wait until those languages start. I am told that three more students from somewhere around the world are coming to stay with us, along with the rumored girl from China who is staying here ( I have yet to see her). Of course, my room is the only room with two beds put together J. After settling in, I made my way to the school to go for an orientation about what we should expect. Following that orientation, we walked around the city center until it was time for our reservations for Tapas. When the first round came, we were all feeling pretty full. By the time the 7
th round came, we couldn’t finish our deserts! The deliciously wonderful meal consisted of bread, salad, ham that had been aging for 5 wondrous years, duck spread with wheat crackers, balls filled with cheese, nicely cooked pork and French fries, and to top it
The ending to a wonderful 7 course meal.off tiramisu and gelato. We even received three drinks: coke, water, and red wine. While I was refilling my water, I accidently knocked over my wine glass, spilling red wine all over a friend’s white shirt and jeans. I was so embarrassed, but thankfully she was okay. Not only did I spill it once, I almost spilled my water glass, and when I went to the bathroom, the light turned off on me. I had to finish going to the bathroom and find my way over to the light sensor in the dark. I swear I only had two sips of wine! Fortunately, I do not like the taste of it. After the delicious meal, I made my way back to the host home with no problems. It has only been day one and I already have many stories to tell.
