Foncebadon to Ponferrada

La Cruz de Ferro - The Iron Cross

La Cruz de Ferro is the highest point on the Camino Frances, at 1505m. It was now a short morning walk away, about 2km from Foncebadon and another steep climb. It was a beautiful morning to do it, and get a early start at finishing crossing the Leon Mountains.

Manjarin

From the Cruz de Ferro, there was a delightful walk into Manjarin, linked to the Templars and now a great place for trinkets. I succumbed. After that a relatively stiff climb to the next ridgeline, and then down to Ponferrada.

At this stage, the clouds started to drift across the side of the hill, and for much of the rest of the morning, I walked in the cloud.

Rough and Ready Roads

I stopped in Acebo for coffee, and by the time I had left, the cloud had cleared. The rest of the walk into Molinaseca was a mix of technically difficult to downright dangerous.

Ponferrada

Pushed on over a mix of sidewalk and road to Ponferrada. Nice albergue, and invited to join Christian, Kathryn, Janelle and Melchior at dinner. Did not sleep particularly well, which did not bode well for the next day.
