Well, that was a trek and a half!
Tomorrow it's supposed to thunderstorm around here, so I figured today would be the day to hike to Vintgar Gorge. Now, there's a "turist bus" in the morning, and I could have taken a taxi... but no, I went all out and walked what was supposed to be 4km (1hr, give or take) each way, for a grand total of about 10km incuding the gorge.
Yeahhhhh. That didn't work as planned haha.
First off, I was supposed to walk north-west out of the town, and then every single website/guide book says the path is CLEARLY MARKED on how to get to Vintgar. Cool. Sounds easy enough - so off I went.
I walked. And I walked. And I walked. In the 28 degree sunny weather.
I walked along a damn highway where the shoulder was about one foot wide - so everytime I could see/hear a bus coming, I'd practically jump into the ditch. Awesome.
Finally there was a "walking path" on the highway... about 2 feet wide, but hey, better than nothing 😉
So, I kept walking. And walking. And walking. No signs. Cool. Totally cool.
FINALLY after God knows how long, I came across this street that says "Podhom" with an arrow. I knew Vintgar was near there and the path was supposed to take me through there... so off I went!
After roaming along this road for about 20min - walking through farm land... ahem - I arrived in Podhom, and glory be, a sign that said Vintgar that-a-way. After another little ways, I finally made it to Vintgar.
It was worth the walk.
Basically, you're down along the river (with some very small rapids and some small waterfalls), and you're walking along this wooden path that they've built along the bottom of the gorge - it's barely wide enough for two people, and in some parts it's not, so you have to stand and wait while people coming the other way go by. It's quite neat.
The water at Vintgar is beautiful - it's green with a hint of turquoise. Some photos captured it perfectly, others not so much, but oh well.
The gurgling of the river was lovely to listen as well.
To come back, I decided to take the same long way, just because
I knew where I was going now. I kept an eye out for "Bled" signs, and it totally took me the same way... so I find it very interesting how they mark their paths. Ahem.
My 10km walk ended up being closer to 12km I believe. But that's ok. I'm just glad it wasn't raining.
So, after the loooooong walk back home - I was so looking forward to my supper... only to find out that someone either took or threw out my leftover pizza. FOR SHAAAAAAME.
I grumbled and made myself noodles and drank my beer instead. Grumble.
But still, a wonderful day - now time to rest my toesies 😊
PS. I saw a bus today and the company name was Labus. I really, really hope it was a Lithuanian company being drole 😊
