Russia

Our flight went well from Heathrow considering the weather we left behind, we arrived in St Petersburg around 4.30pm and went straight to our hostel to meet everyone else on the trip and yes Stu was the oldest! we had a good mix of people, a couple from OZ, 2 lads from Ireland 1 lad from the states and the rest from good old Blighty! The Hostel was OK, two single beds and a mouldy sink but it did the job! That night we went to an English Bar for a few beers.

Fairly early start, we walked to the Hermitage (Winter Palace), our Honcho was a very big fan of art, so we spent around 3 hours of looking at art, to start with it was interesting but after an hour no one was listening and we needed some food, she was really good though, but not our thing! We then wandered the streets and sights (more art galleries but in a very run down building full of students). In the evening we went for dinner and large steins in a Bavarian Beer House, not very Russian

We walked to the Peter & Paul Fortress
CathedralCathedralCathedral

St Petersburg
dating back to 1703 the oldest building in St Petersburg and was used as a defence from the Swedes and then used as a prison upto 1917. The City was really nice, not how we imagined it though, i was expecting some really impressive buildings, dont get me wrong there were some but not that many!

We have the late train journey to Moscow this evening.
