Tish messes with some pigeons just off Nevsky Avenue After a big day yesterday we had breakfast at the hotel and headed for the hop on hop off bus at St Isaac’s Cathedral and headed along the Main Street to Victory Square where there is a huge granite column commemorating the 900 day siege of Leningrad from 1941 to 1943 which without the bravery of the citizens of Leningrad would of almost certainly fell to the Nazi’s and the city destroyed. Around the perimeter of Victory Square, we visited the “Moscow“ Railway Station (main train line to Moscow) which is the last surviving structure by a famous French architect as well as a brand new western style shopping mall “The Galleria” which included most of the high end fashion labels in Andrew’s Wardrobe except for Harris Scarfe says Tish.
We visited a number of shops up and down Nevsky Avenue including the Market Place which was constructed in the 1800’s and modelled on Istanbul‘s grand bazaar where there are Russian Stacking Dolls by the thousands as well every kind of caviar known to man. Before long it was lunch tucker time and we stopped at an alfresco restaurant on Nevsky Avenue for a bite. To Andrew’s great surprise, he

Sculpture outside Archikov Palace was presented with a pair of inconspicuous red latex gloves to eat his burger (see photo). The gloves ended up being a great idea by the time he reached the end of the burger. After lunch we checked out Anichkov Palace as well as Anichkov Bridge where there are four horse statues representing mans control over the four seasons of nature as well a candy shop with some candy being rolled in the front window.
We then boarded our hop on hop off bus and took the red route and green route for the last time before alighting at Palace Square to view the Hermitage and Alexander Column which is the largest single piece of granite column in the world. On the other side of the square there is an arch which still has a sign on it from the 1941-43 900 day Nazi siege warning residents that they my be hit by artillary if they venture past the arch. We then had some dinner tucker around the Palace Square precinct and then walked back to S Isaac’s Square taking in he lighted facades of the amazing architecture of this City including visiting the River Neva banks at night.
