The beginning of the sea.
I know that this is not a clear photo but it was a nice wave

Driving down from Sintra on a winding road, there was nothing to prepare us for the sight of the ocean. Except our own imaginations, which didn't come close to the real landscape. On the way, Danny took us to "The Wind Mill" for lunch. In our visiting the sights with him, he knew that we were from NC and that we were eager to see the ocean. From the restaurant's patio we could see it, but there was enough of a haze that the photos do not show it. Great little bar though, I'm telling ya, we could spend some time here!

And then Cabo da Roca. Such a wonderful sight to see. We were mesmerized. It's hard to explain. Please take time to see the photos as I have no way to describe.

Some facts, this is the Western most point of the European continent. It's probably along the same latidude as DC. It is 490 feet from the cliffs to the beach below. On the monument the text has inscribed the words from Portugal's favorite

in the haze
poet, Luis de Camoes "Here...where the land ends and the sea begins"

We sat and watched, and watched until Danny finally reminded us we still had the drive to Lisbon.
We miss home.
But for now this is as close as we get. It is the same Ocean!
Next time you look across and wonder "what's over there?"...

just a note, Danny told us his favorite game when he was younger was called 'need for speed'. I think he did that to see the look on Keith's face!
