Boeing 777-200
Here, I walked out of the bridge. Arrived after the Johannesburg tour, with the memories still fresh in our mind, I had to prepare for my fight. I took a fast shower, my backpack was mostly been packed. Our flight would leave around 23.55, and Bheki would like to leave around 19:00. It was a drive of 45 minutes. However, the two girls of the Soweto cycling tour were not back at 19:00. They came in a hurry at 19:15. They took a fast shower, pack their bags and they were finished at 19:30. It was time to go, to leave South-Africa and to go back to home. In 45 minutes we were standing at the airport of Johannesburg. And it was time to say farewell to Manda and Bheki. I found this quite hard. They took a very good care for us in those 3 weeks.
We checked in, via the self check in system. It really did not went quite fluent by everyone of us. Some people did reserve a seat – by payment – and the self incheck system put them on another seat. My seat was not quite optimal. I was sitting in between a couple of friends; and I was not able
to change my seat with one of them so they could sit together. Even a married couple was not able to sit by each other. In the end, everyone had a seat, and those people which reserved a payment seat received them after some struggles as well. I got seat 27E and or gate was A10. After the costom check, we finally took diner. I was quite hungry and I ordered a pizza. The waiters were quite friendly and the waiting started. We boarded at 22.15 and our flight, KL 592, KLM Dutch Airlines left at 23:55.
So, we fly overnight. Sleep is a good opportunity to spend those 11 hours and 15 minutes. I could sleep quite good. We got two times a meal. First, a sort of diner consistence out of cold wraps, salad and a desert. The breakfast consisted out of a pancake, a small bread, yoghurt and fruit. One of the stewards was quite funny. He really made everyone laugh. I really like this guy. Because I was sitting exactly in the middle of the airplane, I was not able to make some great pictures. It was scheduled we should arrive at 10:10, but I
we arrived at latest 10:00, so we were on time. I said goodbye to all of my group mates. I was fast back home, after a safe ride with my car. The first thing I could start to tell was of course that I saw the leopard, and that I want to go back.
Back home with some great memories of South-Africa and I am still enjoying these good memories. This will not be my last trip to Africa. They say, if you ever go to Africa once, you fall in love and you want to go back. And I did as well. I don’t know when I will be back, but at least I did not saw a cheetah, so that will be my next goal.
I really would like to thank Manda and Bheki for the good care. They helped us quite good when we encountered some problems; especially at Drankensbergen Manda made some great afford to spend the night dry. Manda knew a lot about the African culture and wilderness and liked to share it with us. He arranged everything we wanted. Bheki was a good driver and always want to help a hand. Not
Flight Amsterdam - Johannesburg
At Amsterdam Airport. It was the end of my first Africa adventure. And not the last. only with the tents, but he also was a good truck technician and a good guy to share a beer and a laugh with. I also would like to thank the group members, without them it was not a very good trip. And Djoser and Africa Travel Co. For organising this beautiful trip. Goodbye Africa, I will come back.
