We awoke to find this breakfast basket outside our door. Mary was very excited because she thought the stork had delivered us a baby. Geo: 55.304, 21.0048
A lazy morning. We had breakfast in the room and went off to see if we could get on a tour to the Soviet missile base with a local hostel. Turns out we needed to book one day in advance, so we were out of luck. We could have tried to book yesterday, but then we probably could not have gone to Nida and the Witches' Hill. Either we would have missed out on something. Maybe the missile base wasn't that great anyway - the TI didn't seem to know what we were talking about so it might not be anything special.
We strolled around the M. Mazvydas Sculpture park. It was a former cemetery and wasn't a perfectly manicured park like others I have been to. But things don't always have to be perfect - it was still very enjoyable because it seemingly had more character and an old-world feel to it.
Mary-ism #17: We came across a sculpture of a woman that appeared to be touching herself in a fairly provocative way. "What's wrong with touching yourself?" Mary questioned me. Nothing, nothing at all!
After, we stopped at an internet café to see the results a2
Breakfast in the B&B before going out to sightsee. Once again, the angle of the shot makes me look like a giant. of our joke. Yesterday, we emailed everybody and told them that we got married in Spain. We weren't sure if anybody would believe it, but knew that if they did, this would go down as one of the biggest jokes ever. Anyway, we sent an email with the following link: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=208778652 9
It turns out that the joke was highly successful, far beyond anything we could have hoped for. All of our planted responses may not even have been necessary. Hopefully everybody doesn't hate us when we get back ... but at least we've given them something to talk about for a long time to come! Of course it's possible that nobody dares to question the marriage - it could be pretty insulting if we were actually married!
We had a good laugh and went off to lunch at "Ferdinanda's", a Russian restaurant (sounds more Spanish than Russian, doesn't it?) that serves traditional food from an old Orthodox sect, using recipes handed down through several generations. Pretty awesome stuff.
After, we went to the Domsaitis Gallery. The art was nothing special, but hey, it was only 1 Euro! It had the worst seats inside - they were

Mary and I were on the mini-bus yesterday when a song came on - the lyrics were largely "Bla bla bla", interrupted by a few non-sensical verses. As soon as we heard the song, Mary and I turned to each other and burst into laughter. I guess the song was part of some cell phone commercial. nothing more than a piece of leather stretched over a box. It felt like you were sitting on a flaccid drum.
Next was the clock museum - kind of cool but kind of boring. Mary was denied a student discount - she's been using her expired student ID card with great success so far. Back to the B&B.
We had dinner at "Kaimas" - the restaurant looked packed and had very enticing photos of the food. But it was a mistake - the food was not good at all. It's almost the Lithuanian equivalent of the "Montana's" restaurant chain. And that's NOT a compliment! But at least there were several attractive Lithuanian ladies in the building.
Pat and Mary Asian Circus-Sideshow Freak in the Baltics Moment #11: A table of beautiful Lithuanian women immediately stopped eating and talking as soon as we stepped through the door. Their heads turned and followed me as we walked to our table. They whispered and giggled giddily to each other, like schoolgirls. For a brief, ever-so-fleeting moment I felt like I was in an Axe body spray commerical! But unfortunately, it was the whole Asian Circus-Sideshow Freak thing again! If only I a3
Typical Soviet-style sculpture. could find a way to exploit this to my advantage ...
After dinner, we checked out a local jazz club. I tried a Svyturys dark beer - it looked and tasted similar to the previous one I had, with the exception of a slice of lemon floating in the glass. The waitress was pretty bitchy to us. Don't know what her problem was.
The food looked pretty good here - perhaps we should have eaten dinner here instead! The jazz band was also good. A scary-looking biker gang walked in just before we were about to leave. The jazz club was a good way to end the night.
