Venice
We are here, but where is here...we are lost!(From here Rob has taken over diary duty, Thea must have been sick of it)
Thursday (Temp. 6deg. Fine, overcast)
Pleasant if boring train trip from Vienna to Venice train station. Sighted snow capped mountains and lovely Austrian scenery. Appeared to have snowed overnight. Italian landscape flat and heavily populated. Not as orderly or clean as Austria. Arrived Venice station 5pm, hastily purchased street map and booked seat for 28th Venice to Florence (ye Gods, 22Euros). First Venice rip off. Rob took the map and sighted route through myriad of streets. Thea not confident. Team set off. Several minutes later after one of the team members takes over navigator team is hopelessly lost. After much frustration and walking of course (in the dark) we find hotel (Canaletto Hotel), Napoleon would love it (see photo). We then muster the courage and head to nearby restaurant, "Marco Polo". Of all things sit next to young couple from Australia. Have very nice, if exorbitantly expensive meal consisting of various dishes of pasta and seafood (70Euros, ouch) leave half drunk of course and go to San Marco square. Very impressive, slightly surreal in nature. Still heaps of people about. Took couple of photos.
Venice
Rialto Bridge at night Walk back to hotel looking into windows. Very tired, go to bed. Venice very good, Rob thinks.
