We made a fairly early start and this gave us enough time on our journey towards Rome to stop off at Orvieto a town situated on a plug of volcanic lava. We parked the van below the cliffs and entered the town by way of its 19th century funicular. The highlight is the superb Duomo with a heavily decorated façade and interesting frescos within (I even bought a guide to try and understand them better).
Our side trip took longer than expected and we also had difficulty finding our chosen campsite but arrived at Camping Tiber about 7 looking forward to tomorrow’s start of our exploration of Italy’s capital city.
