Gone.. Go Trippin' We arrived extremely early, checked our luggage into a locker at the train station and dragged ourselves out to the city of canals. We had called as soon as we arrived and was told we could not check into until later so decided to wander the city which appeared to still be asleep. Tired and drained, we really just wanted to check in and rest. Oh well, press on. We found a small cafe and decided to have some traditional cappuccino and bisccotti-- very Italian of us. Still moseying around, we picked up a meringue along with some sandwiches and had lunch on the steps of a church which appeared to still be closed. It's time! We trekked back to the train station, got our bags and boarded the waterbus to our designated stop. This was an interesting way to
experience a different mode of transportation; cheap too!
One thing to know about Venice is be prepared to get lost. With the windy narrow pathways, most which leads to nowhere, it's a challenge to get anywhere on one shot. Maps are unreliable. Most streets are not even named/ labeled! We had to ask for directions several times before finding the apartment. Get this, most locals couldn't even tell us where our apartment was. Street signs mean nothing here. Once there, we waited for over an hour. Apparently the owners of the apartment live somewhere across town and had to send their daughter to open the apartment for us. We were able to use the telephone from restaurant below the apartment to call a couple times to check status. NOW.. we've finally arrived! The apartment was as cute as can be with a breathtaking view of one of the many canals of Venice. We were even lucky enough to catch a few gondolas passing by. The apartment has two rooms so we shared the apartment with another couple. We had a typical tourist day in Venice-- chasing pigeons in Saint Mark's Square, souvenir shopping and mostly getting lost. And I must

view from our kitchen window say, if ever we could choose to get lost and be lost, this is the place. While around Saint Mark's Square, we stumbled upon the famous Harry's Bar and had every intention to come back for dinner. Of course, we got lost and couldn't find our way back so we settled for what, as I look back now, is quite a boring dinner; lasagna and spaghetti. Nevertheless, how many of you can say you've had spaghetti in Venice?!
Do's & Don'ts DO able in a day. Most travelers choose to arrive early, store their luggage at the train station and see Venice for the day and then get out. However, if you have the time, consider spending the night. What's the big hurry?
DON'T forget to have phone numbers of the places you are going to stay at. Very important in case you're arriving early or late or not at all.
