We are in Voleterra on Wednesday night at about 10 pm. We still have a long drive home to our Agriturismo. I am a little tipsy on wine but am drinking cafe americano and eating sweets. Joe is driving and i have to stay up with him. Do not worry Janelle and Diane!
If anyone was wondering, my mother wrote about how i spelled CIAO wrong in the last post. I fixed it. Thanks, mom.
Yesterday after the post, we took the train to Florence. Very easy. It was the fast train that goes up to 300 miles an hour. We got to Florence and had to rent a car. Right outside the station I think a girl tried to pick pocket us. She clearly did not know who she was dealing with. I am acutely aware of my personal space. We had to rent a car which took some time and THEN the journey began!! It was like the movie European Vacation. We went around and around in a huge circle for about an hour. FINALLY we figured it out. Forget the kitchen renovation...THIS is the real test of our marriage!
We were worried that we waisted
a day of our trip. It was so worth it when we made it to the Agriturismo. We do not have a card reader on this computer so we will post pics later. Bill and Janelle, you HAVE to stay at this place! It is amazing! A farm up in the hills of Tuscany that reminds us of St. Gen, Missouri area times 10. It is easy to see why people fall in love with the area. We arrived at 6 pm and ate a 4 course home cooked meal of ingredients from the farm. Bruscetta, olive oil, olives, tortolloni stuffed with potatos, tossed salad, stewed pork and cabbage and of course CHIANTI from their grapes. Bill, we told him about your wine. Their English is not very good but we understand each other. Riccardo loved how Joe ate every last bit of food! The dinner ended with a sort of cream pie with berry sauce and a shot of grappa or nocino. Joe had grappa (leftovers from wine process), I had nocino. It was like Grandpas wine with Everclear. They allow the fruit to ferment for 40 days and then it has 95% alcohol. The nocino is some sort
of walnut looking thing made like grappa. Wow! This morning we had breakfast with homemade jam, honey, marmalade, juice and fresh milk in our coffee. It was wonderful.
Today we visited Siena, San Ginmignano and Volterra. Sienas square was very romantic for lunch. The duomo (cathedral) was my favorite. (pics later) Joe loved the walled in cities of San Ginmignano and Volterra. They were built 5 centuries before Christ. It is amazing that people still live here.
We better get on the windy road home. More to come.
Love,
Megan and Joe
(ps. Mom if there are any more errors, blame it on the European keyboard! Glad to hear the dogs are well.)
