Exploring/Getting Lost

So throughout the past week I've gone out in the city each day to try and get to know Florence better. It will be my home for the next three and a half months and so I want to know it inside and out. Getting lost and then finding your way back home as proven to be the most efficient and enoyable way to figure out the city's layout. When Florence expanded, the original Roman city walls were torn down (Except for in Piazza Republicca) and a new wall was built in a larger circumference to enclose the entire city.

This Section is all that remains of the second wall of Florence, originally erected during Medieval Times.

I don't know why, but I love all of these photos in the fog. Florence looks so mysterious, and romantic.

Oh, Sarah! Thank you many times over for wonderful pictures. Makes it neat to picture there so much better! Now we can see all that you see and know about Florence a bit! They are wonderful!!!

000000h Sarah --- I can't even tell you what goosebumps it gives me to see the pictures you're so kind to share with us - especially ones like the Arch at P. delle Republicca - I just expect the next picture to have all the tourists cleared out and horse drawn chariots parading thru the courtyard with Charlton Heston at the reins!!! Sure does give new meaning to "old", speaking from the "colonies" over here! THANK YOU for sharing so eloquently!
