Arrived in Florence yesterday to quite heavy rain, but managed to navigate the train and local bus systems to find the hotel OK. We spent today visiting The Uffizi - Florence's major art gallery. I had read the queues to get in were long and it did take us almost 2hrs of waiting but this was helped along by a monster ice cream (and I mean HUGE). My main attraction to The Uffizi was the Bottecelli's, particularly 'The Birth of Venus' and 'Primavera.' There were plenty of other great works including some Caravaggio's and Canaletto's. Simon bought a guide to read as he viewed - his art appreciation is greater than mine. I speed along a bit faster! It was all good though and worth the queue.
