Banyan (Ficus benghalensis)

The ficus originated in India and can grow to a remarkable size. This Ficus is a national symbol of India and is considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists.

It is also found in the English Garden of Palermo, where often on hot summer Sundays, entire Indian, Sri Lankan or Pakistani families gather under its foliage, resting on their bright coloured sheets and covers, feeling at home under their Banyan tree.
