Portovenere
The view prior to beginning our walk Cinque Terre from Firenze we travelled to la Spezia by train then took an awesome bus ride to Portovenere where we commenced our walk to Riomaggiore. The guide says that you start with a brisk climb beside a castle and brisk it was- quite a way up, yet the distances up and down were yet to come. We walked along about 12 kms along coastal cliffs and nice bushland. We stopped for lunch in Campiglia a little and very cold village up on a "hill". We enjoyed some cheese bread and mars bar slice (I made it for everyone in Firenze).
For those of you with height concerns I wouldn't reccommend the Cinque terre as there isn't really any such thing as occupational health and safety so you are literally walking along cliffs. It is really spectacular. We tumbled down the hill after a long day of walking to Riomaggiore then fell into an apartment right by the water where fishermen were fishing (surprise, surprise). Knowiing Italian comes in handy!
The next day we caught the train to Monterosso al Mare and then walked back to Vernazza. Again the views were spectacular and they weren't the only sights. You

Between Portovenere and Campiglia can not imagine what some people will climb a cliff wearing.
Ciao for now

Hello, from a fellow travelblogger! I'm going to be traveling to Italy in a month or two and was wondering if you could give me some advice on getting around. I want to see...well, everything...and thought that a train pass would be easiest. The only one I've seen offers just three days within two months - I'll be in Italy for a week and want to travel more than that! I'm also a student. Any advice? Email: travel_goddess@hotmail.co.uk
