I'm going to keep this short as it was a very busy day and I'm very tired! ;-) Got up about 7 am, the goal was to leave by 8:15, we left about 8:25ish... close enough! We walked to the Vatican Museum and walked past hundreds of people standing in line to get in. We had bought our tickets online, we still had to be in a line for a short while to get through security but it moved fast, then had another quick special "line" for those that bought the audio guide in advance, so no waiting to speak of. The Vatican is so large and is a bit confusing as the "map" really isn't one if you ask a few of the employees along the way where you are you will do just fine.... We actually got in the door probably about 9:10? left at 4:45, walked to St. Peters (takes about 15 minutes) and had to stand in line there for 20 minutes and go through security, lots of St. Peter's was closed off, could not walk around the altar/baldachino area as they were having a service and then didn't open the area back up afterwards,
The bathroom - Salerno
Small shower but not as small as some! I guess it closes at about 5:30. Was able to see Michelangelo's Pieta, so beautiful, the marble looks like it would be soft to the touch he did such a great job with making it look realistic. The Vatican was interesting again, but I don't think I need to repeat the experience, it's a back, hip, and feet killer for sure but if you've never been you really need to experience it. I especially enjoy the Rafael's, his School of Athens is fantastic to see in person, and of course, the Sistine Chapel is a can't miss. I also enjoy the courtyard where the Laocan (spelling?) is. The Etruscan history museum was super interesting, the Romans considered them their superiors in religion and culture (?) and would send their children to them to finish off their education, this was back in the 750 BC or so era! they eventually either all assimilated together or the Romans conquered them, not sure at this point....
Walked back to the apt and picked up some things for tomorrow, on the way walked over the Bridge of Angels, got some nice sunset photos over the bridges, thought of my trip with Jim, he really likes
this bridge, I do too.
Will be getting the taxi in the morning it will take us to the train station for our trip to Salerno, should only take 2.5 hours or so. Looking forward to seeing Paestum, the Amalfi Coast, Capri (if the weather cooperates), etc... then onto Pompei, Herculaneum and Mt. Vesuvius. We'll see what all gets accomplished!
Should be able to post some photos, will try to do so when I'm on the train tomorrow. All packed tonight and am going to bed, it's 10:16 right now.
Fit Bit: 20,808 ++ (have been charging it so didn't get them all recorded, which is 8.96 miles
It's now 10:25 and the party is just getting started outside, hopefully, we can sleep ;-)
A Domani!
Wendy
P.S. Somehow I got some of Salerno's photos on this page, don't know how to move them...

Hi Honey. Thanks for posting. Were you able to go to the dome? Doesn't sound like it...I think you got there too late again! Next time we will do it together. I'm glad you mentioned the Bridge of the Angels. I was going to mention you
needed to take Karen there while you were in the area, but then though you didn't need my "help". Glad you thought of me there though, it is on of my favorite spots. Will be headed out to Oregon in the morning so I may not be as regular on my comments. I love and enjoy the new experiences ahead.
