What a thrill to place my feet on this very old road. It was begun in 312BCE and eventually ran all the way to Brindisi on Adriatic coast! Many of the original stones are still in use. We chose to visit on a Sunday because some parts are closed to motorized vehicles. Access from Rome is easy--Metro, then 10 minute bus ride. We walked about 5 km of the 300+ km! Saw interesting sites along the way--especially Quo Vadis, spot where Peter is reported to have seen a vision of Jesus. He (Peter) then returned to Rome where he was crucified. There is a lovely little church on the spot with newly restored frescoes.

There is so much to see and do in Rome that I am happy not to have made trips elsewhere in Italy diring our 10-day stay.
