Buena Sera! It feels good to be back in Italy after almost two weeks in other countries. Kinda feels like home 😊 It's crazy because I feel like each day goes by more quickly than the last and it's difficult to keep up on blogging. My time in Dubrovnik was unbelievable. Croatia is no doubt the most beautiful country I have ever experienced and I'm positive that I will visit again someday. I spent most of my last two days in Dubrovnik either on the beach or in the water. The beaches are a little rocky but the Adriatic Sea is warm and a crystal clear shade of blue that you just can't find in the US. Alex, Jim and I agreed that a full day on the beach, in lounge chairs, with cocktail service seemed like a pretty good idea... so we did exactly that and loved it. Our dinner that night was at a restaurant with terrible reviews, but they promised free wine and dessert since Alex and Jim were newlyweds, so we decided to take a chance despite what trip advisor said. The food was not the most amazing I have had on the trip, but it wasn't
nearly as bad as the reviews made it out to be. I ordered a white wine and gorgonzola risotto with prawns along with a Grasevina (a common Croatian dry white wine). The risotto wasn't quite as creamy as most I have had before, but the flavor was very good. Alex and Jim shared a black ink seafood risotto which they enjoyed but I opted out of trying because it actually turned their teeth completely black. Seems like something they should warn you about when you order it, but I guess they just assume you know. After dinner, we stopped by crowded pub for a couple drinks before the hike back to our apartment. The pub was playing the Croatian soccer game and everyone there was yelling at the tvs like it was the world cup finals... definitely made me wish soccer was that popular in the US. A couple drinks into hanging out at the pub, Jim came up with the idea of interviewing any potential guys for me and requiring them do the thriller dance before they can talk to me. I was dying laughing, but Alex cut him off from drinking after that and since it was about
3 am it seemed like a good time for bed, hahaha 😊 On our last full day in Durbrovnik we walked around a cute farmers market in Old Town, then headed to the marina at 2 pm catch the boat we booked to take us to the Elaphiti Islands. Martin was our captain for the trip. He was a native from Dubrovnik that spoke decent english and clearly liked to smoke weed. Despite the relatively constant weed smell, the day on the boat was perfect. Martin took us to the most popular swimming spots and water caves on the Islands. Exploring the caves was hands down my favorite part of the day. I was a little scared to go all the way in them at first, but the water is so clear that you can see everything and I was even able to stand up at certain points. We brought snacks on the boat but beer, wine and watermelon were provided for us, so I had absolutely zero complaints. We anchored at a private beach for a while, swam in the water and layed out before the 40 minute ride back to the marina. Since we ate and drank so
much on the boat, we weren't really hungry for dinner. We had a very light meal and turned in early because Alex and Jim had a 6 am flight back to Paris. I am so so so happy I made the decision to meet Alex and Jim in Dubrovnik, my only regret is not staying longer. The trip back to Rome was easy, it was only a 70 minute flight then a quick cab ride to my hotel. There happened to be a live band playing at my hotel that night, so I watched them while I ate dinner then got ready for the early train ride to the coast. This morning I left the hotel at 7 am, cabbed it to Stazione Roma Termini, took a 2.5 hour train ride to Naples, then hopped on another train line called the Circumvesuviana (similar to a metro) and an hour later I arrived in Vico Equense. Vico Equense is a small but lively town right on the coast in between Pompeii and Sorrento. I booked a room at a B&B and the hosts are wonderful. Emanuela and Bart are both from Vico Equense, but they only live here during the summer
months. Their other house is a short train ride away in Castellamare. They have a son, whose name I didn't quite catch and a very cute little dog. Bart came to the train station on his vespa to get my luggage and I walked back to the B&B with Emanuela. Bart speaks better english than Emanuela, so he went over a map of the area and gave me all sorts of tips on things to do. Today I mostly walked around, ate gelato and enjoyed the views. Tomorrow I have big plans of seeing Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. Fingers crossed I fit it all in! Ciao!
