Today we explored more Amalfi Coast towns - this time we headed in the opposite direction and first stopped at our sister town, Maiori. Clare and I decided to walk along the coast to Maiori and met the group there. Maiori has a lot of little beachside bars and is a cute town. There was a local market on today so we wandered up through that - but it was all pretty tacky stuff and I don't think anyone bought anything. I walked up to see the local church - nothing fancy but nice little local church. I then sat in a cafe for a while, having a macchiato and watching the locals going about their business.
We met back at the bus at 11:15 and then drove to Vietri sul Mare - this town is famous for their ceramics, and this was evident everywhere you looked. We wandered through the town to a lookout and took a few photos. We then walked to the church and that pretty much covered the town. I loved all the ceramic artwork that adorned many of the walls and enjoyed taking photos. We only stayed in this town for 45 minutes as it
was time to drive to the next town.
Cetara Is a pretty beachside town and after André dropped us off up the top, we walked down to the harbour. Michele recommended a little restaurant for lunch so we all headed there. We ended up having a lovely, long lunch so there wasn't a lot of time for shopping but that was ok. After I had eaten I walked around the harbour a bit more, taking photos. We headed back to Minori, arriving around 4pm. Some people went for a swim but I wanted to continue my Malta planning, so headed to my air conditioned room!
Tonight we were driving up to Scala for our final dinner. We all got dressed up and were back on the bus at 6:45 for our drive up the mountain. Scala is located on a rocky hill and is 400m above sea level - and of course the drive there was another beautiful scenic one. Michele was a bit concerned because today there would be the celebration of St. Lawrence at the town church - which was located across from our restaurant. As part of this celebration there would be a procession so
he was only concerned in case we couldn't get to the restaurant. No need to worry though as we arrived when everyone was already in the church.
We were treated to another delicious 4 course dinner - all seafood. Sea Bass with citrus. Seafood risotto. Fish dish with capsicum, mozzarella and pea puree. Followed by a trio of desserts. We started with a glass of Prosecco and then had wine with our meal. Half way through the bells of the church started to toll and the procession started to come out of the church. We were so fortunate to be there for this occasion! I spent some time outside, with other people from the town, watching the procession go past all the while the bells kept ringing.
Our meal was finished off with lemoncello and caffe. I must say, Back Roads Tours really include a lot of fabulous meals! Michele did some magic accounting and was also able to pay for our drinks. He is a champion! Sadly, it was time to get back on our bus and André drove us back to Minori. We said good night to everyone then Clare, Robyn and I headed out for
a cheeky nightcap!
