A map in Latina.....A map in Latina.....A map in Latina.....

We're definitely NOT lost....
This trip has truly been a masterpiece of precision planning and truly remarkable research:

Remember all the fuss before we left, because all the hotels we had so carefully booked booked decided to deny all knowledge of our existence......?

Well, just after we congratulated ourselves on catching the correct train from Rome, the (almost) correct bus to Latina with Senor Dickhead, the bus driver, and finding our way into Latina to the correct garage to pick up our hire car- we discover:
a) the garage does not hire cars - not Hertz cars, not anybody's cars.....
b) the garage owner has never heard of us
c) the garage owner does not speak English
!!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually, after a bit of help from The Lonely Planet and several charades later, we get ourselves to somewhere that WILL give us a hire car, and set off to Praiano, and romantic Anniversary hotel!

This involved driving through Naples and a Drive-by of Mt Vesuvius - (no action there luckily), then from Sorrento to Praiano. Whew!

I thought the drive up to Cardrona ski fields was scary, but it's an absolute doddle compared to the Amalfi Coast road in High season.

A small narrow car is the go in Italy
It's NOT so much the traffic driving at breakneck speed on a road only suitable for one lane of traffic, as the cars which park 1, 2 or even 3 deep on the actual road and the tourist buses coming the other way round the blind corners......

Luckily though, we made it to Praiano, and the hotel was everything we hoped for.
Just beautiful.

Going to the beach involves jumping in (brother) Pino's car, and driving 10 minutes down the road to (another brother)Luigi's hotel,a mere 157 steps to the water, and you're there!

When you FINALLY get there ....just a few more steps into the water.....

The water is SO blue, and SO salty you can float for hours ...which we did, hoping the 157 steps back up might have disappeared-

We really deserved lunch after trekking the 157 steps back UP from the water.

Bello
I have to get myself a pair of those Bellingen trunks. I thought I could be satisfied with my Bellingen shire council cup, but I now know what I'll be asking for from Maxine and Barry for Christmas (I'm not joking either). Weather looks fantastic over there. Looks like you're living it up.
