Reluctantly we decided to leave Achill for the mainland having first updated the blog at Achill IT centre, a modern community facility, and eaten lunch overlooking Keel beach. We crossed the temporary bridge and headed south to Newport and Westport, where we stopped to shop and admire this town laid out in the 1790s. On the way to Louisberg we spotted the nation famine memorial and realised we were by Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holiest mountain and a place of pilgimage.

We changed our plans and were luck enough to find a nearby campsite.
