Colouful architecture
This is in Cobh (Cork) where the Titanic stopped for the last time..
Love the buildings Hello!
Sorry it's taken so long to add an entry, was really nice to hear a couple of you wanted me to write another one 😉 thanks!
So, I am now settled in to a magical place called Galway, in Ireland. Galway is on the west coast and has about 70,000 people living here. I hear it's Ireland's fastest growing city! I had been living in Cork but I'd gone up to Galway to visit my cousin Will, his partner Kate and their beautiful baby Lucy and just fell in love with the place! Within a week of deciding I was moving I already had a flat lined up (and a damn primo one too!).
The bus ride from Cork is about four hours so I will be back quite a bit to visit the relo's and Sarah. It was really cool living in Cork especially seeing where my Grandma (Mum's side) grew up.
I arranged an interview with about 6 flats in Galway city and wanted to see even more so I found the right one. The first flat I looked at was in the best location - the centre of town in the main street
Shop Street. I met the flatmates Lean and Briona and knew from the first minute I just loved it! There's two flats which share a massive patio space which has a BBQ and a powerpoint for speakers and a DJ 😊 The two flats are all good mates so we think of it as one flat, two entrances really.
The flatmates are all Irish apart from one American girl called Jen. It was Jen's birthday the first night I moved in so we had an awesome party and went to a cool club called Cuba for some much needed dub step. I got introduced to someone that night who was so shocked it was my first night as it seemed like I'd been friends with everyone for ages. They're so friendly and welcoming, it's awesome!
Galway is about the size of the Hutt in Wellington but has over 300 pubs! Such a good night life, heaps of cool restaurants and a really nice beach everyone calls the Prom. There's always people out and a bout, relaxing in the park, having drinks by the river, running along the Prom and of course at the pubs! Definitely reminds me of
Family
With Julie my cousin and Sarah in Cork Welly which is so comforting! There's a webcam on Shop St and my folks have seen me on it three times which is crazy (it's been arranged beforehand, they weren't just watching and saw me stumbling passed)! Such a cool idea.
The architecture here is unreal. I just love it, it's so vintage and colourful. Heaps of buildings and houses are painted completely in blue, red, green etc. I want to buy an SLR camera and do a roadtrip around taking photos.
I've been to County Kerry where I stayed in a place called Tralee. The scenery is really similar to NZ - beautiful! But I do miss all those little white spots covering the hills - the sheep!
Heaps of people think I'm from Australia, one guy said he recognised me from Home and Away hahah - so many people mock me and tease me about being Australian cos they all know there's a little tif between us and Aus :P.
Galway has a big uni and heaps of overseas students. It's coming up to exam time so everyones a little stressed out.
I'm working for Will at bras.ie and cmconsulting.ie and really enjoying
St Paddys day, Cork
No need to explain how epic the night was... it. I've realised how much I've learn't at Telecom, it's really cool. I've been thinking loads about Telecom and all my friends there. I've followed a couple of media interviews and was so proud of Tina and the Corporate team on the recent 3 interview! Can't wait to see Stephy soon and Murf - argh!! :D
Julie (my cousin in Cork, my age), Sarah and I are planning a trip through Europe in the next couple of months. Can probably only afford a couple of weeks tho. We're getting a European raill pass and travelling everywhere by train, can't wait!! I'm still so keen to go to the States at the end of the year with Chante too! Need to save hardout for that tho!
Will and Kate bought me a Claddagh ring for my 21st, it's got a heart with a crown on it, with hands around it. You wear the heart facing up if you're hearts taken or the heart facing down if not.. It's an old traditional Irish wedding ring and heaps of people in Galway (mainly Galway where Claddagh is but other parts of Ireland too) wear them. The heart is for love, hands
Cousins!
My Irish cousins Katie and Julie with me and Sarah in Cork are for friendship and crown is for loyalty. I love that sort of stuff!
I got my 21st presents from Annemieke today and they were awesome! Heaps of Kiwiana things like jewlerry and a box with Maori designs on it - LOVE IT - THANKS ANNEMIEKE! Really appreciate NZ a lot more now, I did before but now I can see how special the little country is! So proud, even thinking of buying an NZ flag for my room haha 😊 All Blacks are talked about all over the world too, it's awesome.
I'm really used to the Galway accent now, and pretty good with the Cork one too. I am going to Dublin this weekend with some of the flatmates for a dub step gig and a bit of an adventure so will see how I find the Dublin accent. I still love the accents though, after a couple of drinks the other week I announced how difficult I find it not to fall in love with the Irish men everyday haha.
I've been hanging out with my little cousin Lucy heaps whose 15months old. She's the coolest kid I've ever met and I just love
her! She's in all my photos on facebook 😊.
Hmmm, I think I've covered most of my updates! I do get a bit homesick and miss you all very very very very very much. I have a stack of postcards which I haven't had a chance to post yet and will send some more soon so those who want one gimme an email with your addy!
Anyway, I MISS YOU! Keep in touch and make sure you put Galway on your to-do list, hopefully I can see Manja soon in Serbia, Kat in Germany and Casey, Layla and Sweed in England soon!
Arohanui.
