Johnnie's dog at the Brennan House We asked fr our breakfast early this morning, but we still ended up late for mass. My mother arranged a special mass in memory of my grandmother and all the deceased members of the Brennan Family. My grandmother passed away 5 years ago. She died only 4 days after we returned from our last visit to Ireland. My mother spent several hours with her the day after we returned telling her about Cross and all her nieces and nephews. We believe that she was waiting to hear that everything back home was alright before she passed away. The mass started promptly at 9:30 and was over before 10am. The priest was very efficient and was not on the Irish time standard we had seen previously... where things started 2-3 hours after they were scheduled. 😊 After mass we visited in the church with the cousins and some neighbors. There were several people from town that had heard we were coming and asked to meet us because they had known my grandmother. Our next stop was the Brennan Household again, so that Angie, Brent, Maureen, Jack and little Natalie could take a look at where grandma flynn was born. The family chatted
The Brennan House
This is the house my grandmother was born in. It would have been have the size in her day with a thatched roof away over Tea and pastries. Natalie was very interested in seeing the Cattle, the dog, and the cat... that was the best part of her. We spent several hours talking and then headed to take Brent and Angie to see the Bridges of Ross before our big family lunch at the Lighthouse Inn in Kilbaha. The Bridges were gorgeous. At lunch I sat next to cousin Leslie, Pa, and Celia. I asked a lot of questions about the area and how it would have been when my grandmother was there. They all helped to enlighten me. After lunch, Johnny (the family historian/tour guide) gave us a guided tour of Kilbaha(1 min was all it took ) and we snapped a few family photos. We were sad to hear that Padraig (Pa's son) was not able to join us for lunch, so I asked if we could maybe meet up with him on our way north. Pa arranged to meet him at the Lahinch Golf Club. Pa joined us on our last visit to Loophead and then the trip to Lahinch. Pa just retired from the Garda(police) and I was a little nervous to have him in the front seat while
I was driving. He gave us a little more history/tour on the way to Lahinch. He also said I was doing very well as a driver...which gave my driving confidence a little boost. We pulled into the Golf Course just as Padraig Harrington, an Irishman, was winning the British Open. The clubhouse was full watching the last hole of the tournament and everyone was excited to have an Irishman win the open. Padraig filled us in on his schooling and job. We had a great visit with him. We left Lahinch around 7:30pm and started heading north to Galway. We stopped in Doolin to try to catch some live music, but we were way too early as nothing gets going until 10pm. Our route took us thru the Burren along the coast to Galway. We were aiming at getting into the B&B before 10:30, but we got ourselves turned around in Galway. We were greeted at Taur Beg B&B at 11:30 by Siobhan Feeney. She was wonderful and showed us to our room. We were all asleep within moments of laying our heads down.
