Bratislava train station
We passed through the capital of Slovakia on our way to Budapest We got up early and were standing at the bus stop in Jeneralka in time to catch the 6:30 a.m. bus to Devicka where we could catch the first subway train. All we had to do then was ride the subway to the Muzeum stop, change from the Green Line to the Red Line and go one stop to the train station. Our destination was Budapest where we planned a long weekend, to the city and our friend Hannah. The train was scheduled to leave Prague at 7:32 and that is exactly what happened. Transportation is so wonderfully easy in Prague!
Just as the train began to move I saw a woman walk onto the platform and begin yelling for the train to stop. Amazingly the platform conductor waved his sign and the train stopped. The conductor opened the door to the car we were riding and the lady climbed aboard and the train started moving again, this time not stopping until we reached Kolin, the first scheduled stop. I was surprised to see a train stop for a late passenger but pleased to see that they were so kind. The woman was obviously feeling ill since

After she got settled, I noticed she was wearing a collar such as the ones used for neck injuries. That made me doubly glad for the courtesy of the train staff.
Hannah was waiting on the platform, #13, in Budapest when we climbed off the train. The Klenti Station was built in 1884 and is the largest in Budapest. In many ways the station reminded us of the one in Frankfurg, Germany. It was large and had nice windows on the end. We were glad it escaped being bombed in the second world war.
I had made reservations at the Hotel Baross which is within sight of the entrance to the train station. Actually it is about a two minute walk from the station and also from a subway station. The hotel is on the upper floors of a building with a large internal courtyard open to the air above. The hotel elevator is made

I believe the Atlanta Hyatt Regency Hotel was the first I saw with this sort of structure. These hotels are now more of less common place in large cities and some malls have adopted a similar architectural style. This hotel was just a regular 3 star downtown hotel but could have provided the model for those fancier hotels in the USA with its regular European inner courtyard and the way the hotel made use of this traditional building style. The room was very nice with three beds instead of the two we had ordered, a nice tiled bathroom and a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, cabinets with all the dishes and pots and pans you would need to cook for yourself plus a microwave oven. There was a table with chairs rather like a small kitchen dining
area. A big buffet was served in the mornings from 7 till 11. We would recommend the Baross for anyone traveling to Budapest via train. It is easy to get to, reasonably priced, immaculately clean, has
