20 September 2012 We continued eastwards and arrived at lunchtime at the coastal town of Kavala but couldn’t visit or take pictures of its castle and ancient 3 storey aqueduct because of heavy traffic and lack of obvious parking. However we found a pleasant place to stop and eat by a small beach.
The day’s journey ended at a delightfully situated beach side camp site on the outskirts of Alexandroupoli, 25 miles from the Turkish border.
We had our first dip in the sea of this trip and this was followed by an excellent meal with six of our fellow travellers at an open air restaurant facing onto the beach.
