Dead calm this morning not a breath of wind, today we hired a quad bike to cruise the island and headed off to a place called wild beach. The little quad is just great for getting around fine for two people and small enough to park most places, is great fun, no helmets just cruising. Getting somewhat lost on the way seems to be part of the fun and the street names in Greek are hard work and they are tiny on the island, many only wide enough for one vehicle but you do manage. So we first came to the only “village” on the island which has this great monastery dating back to the 1600 and in great condition, very different to a church and we spent some time there. The island in general is full of chapels, and I mean full of chapels, it seems that almost every house has its own, from one spot alone we counted more than 20 and they are all white stone with red roofs. Deciding it was time for coffee we stopped in a little taverna in the village and took time out in this little place in the middle of the island, about 20 mins ride from the coast.

We understood Wild Beach to be a fantastic beach and shoreline view but oh no, it was this tiny secluded beautiful white sandy beach with only about 5 people one tavern and that’s all, what a stunning spot, having a quick dip in the Aegean it was off to find Panormos, another scenic view, we thought. On the way is the famous monastery which I can not spell it starts with p has too many o’s, c’s and t’s to even start, thinking it would be easy to find we followed the signs and nothing, so carrying on we got to Panormos which is another tiny beach with a tavern, no swim here just some pics and off to try the monastery again. Alas no matter where we tried, no monastery, so flagging that it was off to Platis Gialos beach for lunch. Well this was a different spot with a long beach full of cafes, tavernas and beach umbrellas and people, super yachts abound and crystal blue clear water. Lunch at a waterfront café was the order of the day and then another swim, the water is a little cold still but worth it as it is very hot, only 26 but feels like 36. After this it was into town for some retail therapy and to have a look around at “little Venice” as it is known. Too hot to enjoy walking the streets and we could not fine “Petros” the local resident pelican so we headed back to the hotel for a laze by the pool, and a well-deserved cold beer hard dayJ. Dinner in town again, about 15 mins walk from the hotel to a cute little water front café (what else) on Mykonos 😊
