Unfortunately this hotel does not pick you up at the port. (Ironically, it is by far the most expensive accomodation of my trip. Just one night here & then to Paradise Beach; they couldn't accomodate me there both nights). So I had to navigate the public bus, not too bad. Got dropped off in Mykonos Town, but then had to figure out the other bus to Psarou Beach; that was a bit of a challenge as Mykonos Town, by the waterfront, has a labrynth of streets; actually specifically designed that way to confuse marauding pirates. Of course, the heat of the day doesn't help. Anyway, got dropped off near the hotel & with some more pointing in the right direction, I got there 830 PM!
A room with air conditioning! But again, the shower was a joke! Now, I'm not trying to be a big snobbish American tourist, but they have enough room & money for all kinds of things, so doubling the size of the shower so you can actually stand in it, is reasonable! Disaapointingly, the shower was pathetic in Paros as well so I was holding out for my nice accomodation. There was to be no
more waiting so I had a labourious & unsatisfying shower by holding the wand, otherwise it just lays limp, getting wet, standing on the bathroom floor to lather up & then trying to hose off without dousing the entire room. That didn't go so well; without a much needed squeechy, 4 towels later, the bathroom was reasonable again.
Caught the bus back into Mykonos Town for a late evening. It was a two gyro day. Walked about-usual cafes, souvenier shops, nightclubs, & again because it's Mykonos, many upscale boutiques, shoes, jewelery. It was very crowded; by far, the most crowded of the islands; it is a place to see & be seen; the faishon is everywhere. Also, Mykonos is well known as the Greek haven for Gays & Lesbians. So many openly gay couples; not so much on the lesbian side & a few people in drag.
Day 2
Breakfast was included, a nice touch. Checked out & backpacked along the beach for about 45 minutes over to Paradise Beach, nice walk. Also a camping place like I had in Ios, but I got sort of stuco bungalo here with two beds, but I have it to
myself, not bad. Spent the rest of the daytime at the beach. Definitely a party beach-happy hr. is accompied by loud, loud dance music, people on tables, pouring shots from bottle to mouth & a man wearing only a g-string banana (see picture) (the day before it was an elephant trunk). I watched for a bit. Went to town for dinner & some more walking around. Returned on the most crowded bus I've ever been on. Continue to be TONS of Australians everywhere. Followed by Canadians, but I believe I've also hit a patch of Italians.
Day 3
Spent the day at the beach. Relaxing. Played Backgammon, which is big here, with two guys from Turkey; one headed to Rhode Island for school. Standard backgammon for those of you in the know; the other versions were either, too early in the day, illegal or inappropriate.
Only other comments here: 1) Paradise Beach is under the flight pattern so about 15 times today, a low flying commerical jet, or what appeared to be a sweet looking private jet, loudly soared overhead on the way to the airport. 2) Mykonos is known for its wind; it was a bit
windy. The beach itself is a little pebblely, not fine soft sand. Finally, a good shower! An actual room/closet in the beach house, water pressure & all. Wish I could have stayed here both nights, would have been just as fine & cheaper; but oh well, like Davida said, more living & learning.
They shuttled me to the port where I met Elliot & Andrew, two well paid Canadians living in Manhattan (they're in their latter 20's). We had some beer & good conversation; it help pass the time as the ferry was 90 minutes late. Boarded about 1 AM; those guys had a room & I had a chair. Not too comfortable of a sleep but so it goes. There were many on board from the Greek army.
I'm now leaving the Cyclades (sic clay des) (all islands so far have been in this most popular group) and heading for the Dodeconese (group furtherst from the mainland). Greece is divided into several island groups including the Ionian (side towards Italy/Ionian Sea), Saronic Gulf (kind of closest to Athens), Sporades, (closer to Thessaloniki (where Vasso's family is from Aaron); Greece's 2nd largest city), Northern Aegean & Crete.-Today's geography
lesson.
Mykonos-Nice to see, a good beach.
Side note:
Mind your head! & duck! (Mind in Europe means watch). Several times I have knocked my head; not sure if I'm too big or Europe is too small, but phone booth, ferry, wooden tent... ouch

Nice Local Pics
Steve, By far the best job on the local pics. Remember what Chris Smith used to say: History is more than dates and buildings-it's how people act on a daily basis. You captured that with the whole beach party scene-living history at it's best!!!!!!!!! Sidenotes-The whole toilet paper in the garbage is just gross. *What do the locals due for aliving? Is it 100% based on tourism? *Cuban cigars-bring back as many as you can but remember to remove the band and out it in another place-as they are highly illegal. Stay safe and can't wait to see you in a little over a week
