After a light night out in the Athens hostel, we took to the sea early the next day. The metro system to the port was simple and there are plenty of people selling delicious “doughnuts” in the streets for breakfast right next to the port. Had some breakfast doughnuts, bought a ferry ticket, and jumped on that boat with anticipation of some famous Greek Island, Mykonos. Naturally the ferry ride was packed filled with sleep, card playing, and a little sightseeing. Upon our arrival, we were immediately struck by a man offering us somewhere to stay (like we have heard). He continued to tell us that he had a place on Paradise Beach for twenty euros a night. About two seconds later he was interrupted by a less sketchy woman that said hers was only fifteen and we would get a actual house on the beach and if we were not satisfied she would bring us to his place. The Spaniards in us said “vale” and accepted to 10-15 minute drive to there place “Mini’s Studio”. It took us about two seconds to accept the offer on the place because it was absolutely amazing for thirty euros a night each
in off season. Mini was one of the nicest owners I had ever come across, she drove us into town, gave us free internet, told us where to go at night, how to get around the island, drove us back to the port when we left, and anything else one could want. MINI’S STUDIO is amazing, but book in advance unless its off-season because she is sold out once season starts.
First stop the Beach Platis Gialos, because we can see it from out porch. It was only a brief stop and onto about three other beaches before we reached our destination beach of Paradise. Obviously the fifteen minute walk was bad because the scenery around the island coast isn’t too shabby. The main purpose of the walk consisted of scouting the water and cliffs for something to jump off of, unfortunately came up empty. Paradise Beach was a quiet beach at the time because of seasonal issues, but it still had plenty of people, beer, and food. Beach is over dinner time. We grabbed a couple quick showers and went back to the place that asked us if we wanted to eat on our walk back from the
Kicked back
Although I was missing a beer beach. First of all; bread is always free in Greece, unlike Italy, second; portions will actually fill a normal person, unlike Italy, third; always get after dinner shots, unlike Italy, and fourth; the waiters are always friendly, unlike Italy. I’m not hating on Italy, just the style they serve their delicious food. With food in the belly, a couple of shots down the hatch (since they gave us a bottle of Jagrmeister and Ouzo and said help yourselves), we ventured into the city. Mini was kind enough to take us there this time and warned us about the overpriced beverages. Walking through the little stores we came upon a gyro place and bought some beers from there and drank outside this shop for about thirty minutes. Then Drew and Sami show up out of nowhere (they attend UA with us in Alicante). Vale, let’s have a couple beverages and call it a night (we nearly cleaned that gyro place out of large beer cans). Well maybe we’ll go to a couple bars and clubs then call it a night…
The next morning we woke up and hit the beach… what else would we do? Drew and Sami showed up,
José y yo
walking on water this time... well on not really but on 4-wheelers, so we got jealous and rented some about an hour or so later. Road hog (Jose), Blairbear (Blair), and Hawk (yours truly), took the quads for a spin around the island. Declining hills with rocks on them make for a sore break hand. OH YEAH, they are also slightly dangerous because you slide down them and almost go over the edge of cliffs (Blair). Um…
“Hi, Mrs. Clarkson… your son went off a cliff in Mykonos”
Luckily he did not, even though Jose and I thought he wasn’t going to make it. About an hour later we picked up Road Princess (Chris) and Joye (don’t remember her nickname) and went around the island more, it was cold. We took our quads to the windmills, little Venice, Super Paradise Beach, and then to dinner. Dinner was of course amazing and the deserts were even better, I love SLOVAKI and chocolate moose thing with liquor in it. We needed the check and Blairbear extends his arm looks at the waitor and goes SNAP!! All of us are like WTF, man. His reply and I quote.
“I was just snapping my fingers, I um… just do that sometimes, I like
snapping”
We shook our heads, paid the tab, and took our quads back to Mini’s.
The next day we needed to bring the quads back and get to our ferry returning to Athens by 4pm. This didn’t bother us because it was a little chilly and the sun was not out, so we didn’t miss any important beach times. We took the quads out looking for the “Hard Rock Café” in Mykonos, not one but a few people told us there was one on the island. We road in circles for about an hour looking for it until we decided it didn’t exist. Oh well, we grabbed some really Greek sandwiches, checked out the windmills during the day, and road back to Mini’s. Took a couple photographs with Mini and thanked her for everything. Back on a ferry and back to mainland Grecia.
