Ok so my friend Stav - who is Greek - gave me the rundown of what to see and what to eat in this part of Crete (I mean, he helped me pick my itinerary as a whole, but specifically here) - I didn't doubt for a moment, and he didn't steer me wrong. Falasarna is absolutely STUNNING and so much good food around here. I'm sure tomorrow will be more of the same.
So this morning I left Chania pretty early in order to get to Falasarna before the crowds - it's only about an hour drive, so nothing wild. Sure enough I got there perfect time (around 9:30) there were still some "front row seats" if you will, comfy lounge chairs and umbrellas. Since it was still quiet I went out into the water to take my pics and selfies (of course) and then retreated to my shady umbrella to do some reading. Every so often I'd go back out to the water, and repeat! It was hot today (39C) so I mean, even in the shade it's still warm lol. The water felt perfect. It was also gorgeous just to look at - crystal clear, amazing shade,
the whole package.
For lunch I popped up into En Plo Taverna for a pita gyro which def hit the spot. I'm finding it tricky with the heat to actually want a full lunch meal, but hard to go wrong with a gyro. The guys were super friendly, super fun at the taverna.
I then went back to Kissamos to find my Airbnb. It's a super cute little villa... but it's also on a giant hill which means parking (and driving to get there) is a hella adventure. I honestly don't know how I got out of the spot (it's like so past 45 degrees steep and I have to reverse out and then like 8 pt turn to go back down the hill and just pray no car comes while I attempt this haha. Ok, so a more confident reverser could do a 5 pt turn maybe, but still 😉 My poor little Hyundai i10 is... not loving the steepness, but it managed.
I ventured out for supper to Erofili for some authentic Greek - another recommendation. I ended up getting the chicken in a clay pot which came with potatoes, herbs / olive oil /
sage, sweet peppers and was SMOTHERED in mizithra cheese and was simply to die for. SO good. Extra perk with the bill? You get some ice cold raki and watermelon as a chaser lol. I always forget how potent raki is... it... certainly wakes you up. I didn't venture the large glass and simply sipped a shot glass worth, but happily ate up all the watermelon!
Back at the airbnb I have a kitty friend who looks like a young Homer (my childhood cat). He's is adorbs, but he is determined to sneak into my place which is not happening bc of my allergies. He keeps hanging out on my patio though, trying so hard to be petted and to make his daring escape.
