We caught up with our cousin before heading to Greece. It was great to see him!! And we found NZ beer. It wasnt the best but was still good to drink it 8) So we leave Yeovil and end up in Halkidiki on the Kassandra peninsula in Greece for 2 weeks.
We got to our hotel at bout 130am/2am and was to be up and at the hotel bar at 10am the next morning for our welcome meeting with the rep. That was a waste of an hour into our day the possibly couldve been better used catching up on sleep. Anyways we signed up for a meal and a quiz night in Hanioti for that night. We had a wee looksie around the village of Hanioti and found the beach which looked decent enough and a look round the shops which all sold the same things really but then its catered towards the tourists. Went out to the meal at an italian restrauant and meet some other people out on holiday with first choice. They seemed nice enough but one couple really helped us on the cocktail way at the quiz night thingee afterwards. The quiz thing wasnt the greatest and there were no prizes for dumbest or funniest group names or wrong answers as you would expect so our group knowing none of the answers really got last and no there werent
Hanioti Square
Centre of the village we stayed in not that you can see much of it, but the fountain is in the back any booby prizes either, so another cocktail and time we moved on to another pub before making bak to the hotel at bout 3am after getting a little lost on the way.
After a day looking around another village called Pefkohori and a couple of days lying on the beach (which drove Leeza nearly mad with boredom so we played board games on the beach) we then had ourselves booked on a dinner cruise. We were really only going to see the sunset which wasnt the greatest but the live band and a few people we met made it all the better. We were the only non couple on the cruise but we still had fun. We met this older couple from Scotland who were pushing 70 and still made everyone else look stupid on the dance floor. They really knew how to dance and the band played some old rock and roll songs that they tore the dance floor up with. I cant remember their names so we've named them Rosie and John coz she looks like Rosie off 'The Wedding Singer'and he looked like a John.
Another few days of looking around another village called Afitos
and lying on the beach and heading into Pefcohori again and we had another trip planned of looking around a really old cave in Petralona. Aparently the cave where they found the skull of the oldest European male proving that the europeans didnt come from Africa (something like that) and yeah met a few more people who were pretty funky. It was an interesting day out though anyway.
We did another trip on a Pirate Boat to some wee beach on Sithonia (Which is another peninsula). We got off the boat and the rain clouds came but no rain - there was just no sun - until we got back on the boat to do a wee trip alond Sithonia and a stop off at Turtle Island for a wee swim and a jump off the plank before heading back to the bay where we caught the boat. IT was a good day out and even thought the clouds came out at the beach we still played volleyball and went for swims. Met another couple from Southampton and Andover named Danni and Russ. They were a fun couple and we ended up out on the town for dinner and
Dogs!!!
The amount of stray dogs just lying around the village was shocking!! a few drinks that night.
Went to Thessaloniki for the day and well i wasnt really overly excited about Thesaloniki. It was incredibly busy, loads of people and cars and scooters and trucks and it was dirty and loud and yeah...... It was a pretty town centre though with loads of cafes and bars around. But the city just didnt really appeal to either of us really.
Played Mini Golf and pool and had a few beers another day with Danni and Russ another day before going out for dinner and a few more beers that night.
And our last day we werent leaving until 745pm but had to check out at 12pm so had the whole afternoon to kill so a few beers and a bit of pool and a bit of sunshine on the beach and another meal out with Danni and Russ and we were all set to catch the bus back to Thesaloniki airport for our 1145pm flightback to London. It wasnt much of an airport so sitting ont he ground for an hour and a half wasnt the best way to begin a long 2 days of hanging around in an airport.
But we did make it back to London where Danni and Russ had a lift waiting for them and Leeza and I had a few seats waiting for us to ly on for the next 8 hours, just as well they didnt have armrests.
Pictures are coming but there seems to be a problem with the server at Travel Blog so they will take a little longer to make it on the blog. But they will be there soon.....
