I wake up around 1 AM, Kirsten is still sleeping; well I think she is. After an hour of trying to fall back asleep I get up and hang out in the kitchen and do some paperwork. Around 3 AM I’m starting to get tired and head back to bed.
Around 8 AM I wake up and Kirsten is already up and dressed, get up sleepy head we have a busy day ahead of us looking for St Nick.
Ok, Ok, I roll out of bed at the very moment my feet hit the ice-covered floor, I let out a squeal and fall back into the bed retreating to the warmth of my covers. Yes, its freezing over here and yep, I’m awake now. Kirsten walks out of our room shaking her head saying, “such a whimp”.
I finally get dressed all the time hugging the radiator in our room. Pulled in by the aroma of coffee, I make it into the kitchen. Kirsten looks up and smiles asking would you like some warm coffee Tinker Bell. No, I want a HOT cup of coffee please, Lori Omi, Sam and Kirsten all laugh. We’re all sitting around the
kitchen table enjoying breakfast and discussing our day. Yes, I’m much warmer now for those concerned about me.
We decide that today we will be visiting three Christmas Markets. The first one is Wurzburg, second is Schweinfurt and then we will complete our day by visiting Bad Kissingen. Not Kissimmee, but Bad Kissingen.
We’re all dressed in as many layers as possible and it’s time to go. When I open the front door the arctic air brushes up against me, my teeth start to chatter, and the wind is freezing the tears on my cheeks. Finally, I hear Kirsten’s voice, get in the car Tinker Bell, were all waiting on you, plus it’s warm.
Over the hill and through the woods to Christmas Market we go... I’m fumbling with my phone hooking it to the car system so we can use Apple Maps. How did we ever travel without all this technology? I have it up and running and were listing to Christmas music by the time we’re leaving the little village of Motten.
Within an hour we arrive in
Wurzburg. Kirsten has her eye on the parking garage in the center of town. Lori and
Sam are following right behind us.
We’re parked and walking to our First Christmas Market. We turn the corner and there it is all the lights, Evergreen trees the booths selling their wares. People are all bundled up and carrying packages, what a sight.
Lori spots the Gluewine booth and we head directly to it. We all get our first cup of hot wine, it’s awesome, deliciously warm.
Omi, Kirsten and Lori are having a fabulous time visiting the booth checking out all the different crafts and wares they are selling, Ornaments, Hats, scarf’s, you name it they have it with a Christmas theme.
Now, I’m not going to describe each market because they are all pretty much the same. Some are small and cute others are large and busy. I will only discuss the highlights from now.
Back into the car and of we go to
Schweinfurt. This Market is small and cute as can be, I even found a gift for Drew. After enjoying more Gluewine, we’re back into the car and heading to our last Christmas Market for today. This is the town of
Bad Kissingen; Omi had visited it when she was
a teenager living in Fulda. Her and her friend Helga road their bicycles here.
The sun has gone down and as we enter the Bad Kissingen the streets are glowing with lights. Kirsten leans over and says this is why I saved this one for last, it’s known for its lights.
We park and start walking toward the glow. We find our Gluewine and stroll the streets looking in booths and shops.
Back home we bring out all our purchases, showing each other what we bought. It’s like Christmas morning and we get to do it all over again tomorrow.
Good night
