Day 1

Drive from Zurich to Lorrach really reminded me of East Tennessee... except to Kudzoo. Gift.

complementary brewhaha's for the 8 hour plane ride. had to take advantage.
Day 1 started with Timmy singing in my ear, at 7 AM, which consequently made me want to punch him in the stomach and cough blood up. I fought off the urge however, and made my way down to breakfast. Our first flight left Nashville headed towards Cincinnati at 10:30. We then had a 4 hour layover in Cincy. So, naturally Tim and I took advantage of this time, by hitting up the airport bar. We departed Cincinnati and made our way across the Atlantic Ocean. Our destination - Paris. The flight to Paris was brutal, but it was well worth it when I saw the sun rising up over the ocean. We flew from Paris to Zurich, and were then picked up by Tim's cousin, Bjoern. We crammed into his tiny car (because no one has anything bigger than a smart car here) and made our way to Lorrach - Tim's home town. It's hard to explain the scenery of Switzerland. It almost like the foothills on steroids. The road slopes up off the road drastically, almost like Pigeon Forge. The foliage is much different from East Tennessee, but there is a lot of farmland. It's almost similar to Hawkins

County. Away from the road is mountainous, much like North Carolina; however, instead of winding roads through the mountains these crazies just blasted right through it. There were several long tunnels that went straight through the mountains. When we arrived to Tim's home town it reminded me of a mix between Mayberry and Gatlinburg (just because of the way the buildings were built into the sides of the hills, there aren't any mullets, tattoos, litter, fat biker women, blue jean jackets, or putt putt golfing games) It is an awesome town, and you can tell within the first 5 minutes that the people take pride in where they live. There is no trash, everything is tidy and taken care of, and hardly anyone drives. Our hotel room over looks a small train station, a small market square, and more of the city. After checking in we went to Tim's grandfathers house and I immediately ate Emily's favorite German snack - homemade pretzel bread and salami. It was fire. Tim's "Opa" used to run a bakery so he's a master on the pretzel bread. We visited there for a while with Opa and his Aunt Barbara. Tim and I are going strong on 36 hours with no sleep. Tired is an opinion, so I don't think I am going to be tired tonight. Hopefully. Hittin the local bars with Tims cousins ... could get interesting. More details to come tomorrow.
