I had to leave Anils place fairly early as he had work but it worked out pretty well since I have some stuff to do before my 1pm train ride out of here. I did a little research into the Swiss part of my trip and checked out some trains and hostels and what not. I also bought another larger USB disk drive so I can safely store all my pics. So I am just going to chill in this internet cafe uploading pics until it is time to depart.
I do not know if I mentioned this before but I originally was supposed to go to Aix-en-Provence and couchsurf with a woman there but a few hours before my train there I got a message from her saying she could not host me due to her work. I understood but it still kind of sucks. I figured I would try to post a message in the Marseilles CS Group Forum asking for help for tonight. 5 minutes later I get an email from this guy Daniel who is a big organizer of all things CS in Marseilles. He tells me they are having a CS Potluck Dinner Party in
Marseilles tonight and if I show up he can get me a couch so I figure why not. My train to Aix-en-Provence was going through Marseilles so I just hopped off there, took a little trip around, watched the USA-Slovenia match and then headed over to meet them having no idea what to expect.
Wow, did I luck out. It turns out that this weekend is their annual Marseilles CS Invasion as they call it where they get a bunch of CSers from all over to come for a kind of reunion weekend. They pick this weekend since it is the Panier Festival at this time as well. Panier is a very old neighborhood in Marseilles which is now inhabited by immigrants from Algeria, Morocco, Brazil, former French African colonies and more. It really is just a big melting pot. Anyways I had dinner with everyone and sure enough they found me a host. It was pretty funny talking to her since she speaks almost no English and I speak no French but she is quite kind and now I have a place for my 2 nights in Marseilles which is awesome.
Spent the night out at this
band
reggae band festival with a few other people I met at the dinner. It was AMAZING. The streets of this crazy little neighborhood are just packed with people partying all night. People are outside there houses with tables set up selling food and drink from their country of origin. There are stages everywhere playing all types of music. Had an absolute blast just wandering around, eating different things and listening to the music. Luckily I was with a french girl for a while who was my translator and as she said she was lucky to be with me since french girls are notorious for getting lost apparently haha. Whatever. A great night and looking forward to another one tomorrow.
