Tuesday morning students woke up early to meet in downtown Sarreguemines for a scavenger hunt around town. Students were split into 4 teams of 4 and given a mission to find answers to about 25 questions over the course of a four competition. The Americans were on their own for this with no help from their French counterparts. Questions involved local geography, history, places around town, finding objects and bringing them back from common areas like the post office, the legume vendor at the local market, and schedules from the train station. Students also had to approach strangers and ask them about local holidays and traditions as well as check out local movie times without the typical method of simply looking down at their phones as cell phones were held during the competition. While none of the groups were able to answer all of the questions in time, everybody put in a good effort in between getting lost, speaking French in the real world, adding in a quick shopping trip to buy some clothing, or eating a tasty pastry.

In the afternoon students returned to Henri Nominé High for their first experience inside a French school and cafeteria. Some students went to math class while others learned about science or philosophy. It was an interesting culture experience for everyone and an opportunity to better understand America, Dunwoody High, and how French society thinks about school differently than us.
