Puy Haut to Chenerailles
Kate Smith & Betty Mckew
Some Doggy Love By the end of the week the weather got chilly so we pulled on a few extra layers and rode out of Puy Haut a little sad that this would be our last rural adventure by bicycle. So we took it very easy - average speed 14.2km/hour. Cycling has to be one of the best ways to really experience new landscapes, as long as you're not in a hurry. At this pace we could hear the birds, smell the soil and feel the temperature as we rolled down little country lanes and into areas one would miss if traveling by car. We covered a good chunk of the Creuse Region by bicycle and had great time.
We ended our ride in the town of Chenerailles and met up with David and Liz at the Chateau Villemonteix, built in the 15th Century. The gentlemen who own it run tours, so we spent the afternoon climbing a massive spiral staircase and viewing rooms filled with original tapestries, art and furniture. The chateau is 90%!o(MISSING)riginal and smells very old.
