It was our last day in Bordeaux and our last day with our amazing and wonderful hosts, Jean-François and Colette. I have no idea how we will ever be able to repay them for their kindnesses and hospitality! We have been STRONGLY suggesting a trip to Calgary to them so we will see 😊 Being able to spend time with them has been one of the highlights of our trip (mine and mom's and Ken's) and we are so very blessed to know them! We left Bordeaux around 10:45 am after we made a stop at the Europcar office to add Ken as a driver on the rental car. He brought his GPS monitor and so we had directions almost every step of the way (more about that later!). I drove to St. Emilion and we explored there for a couple of hours and had a nice lunch in the plaza. Ken had a smoked salmon pasta salad and I had a French version of chicken fajitas. Both were very good 😊 It was a beautiful and hot day....seemed perfect in an area where you are totally, and I mean TOTALLY, surrounded by vineyards! Ken drove the rest of our trip
to Crocq and it was uneventful until the GPS started to get low on batteries and we tried to plus it in to the cigarette lighter with the power cord. Only thing was, that what we thought was the power cord was actually the power cord for Ken's cell phone and when we plugged it into the GPS and the cigarette lighter it looked like we fried the system. So we turned it of and promptly got lost in Ussel! I have NO idea how we missed the signs to La Courtine! After fuming a bit about the GPS and about getting lost we decided to try turning the GPS back on to see what damage had been done and, lo and behold, it fired back up and started right back where it had left off! By that time, though, we were well on the way to La Courtine and it was only 25 km to Crocq. The battery finally died about 11 km from Crocq so we were safe! We arrived in Crocq right at the stroke of 6 pm. We settled in, sat and relaxed a while as our canned cassoulet heated up. That was a good, simple
meal! Very, very tasty! After dinner, and a few glasses of rosé we decided to take an evening walk around town so Ken could see this beautiful place. Needless to say, he is very impressed! On our little promenade we walked past Pascal, the butcher, who was working in his shop. So Ken got to meet him before anyone else in town! After our walk we came back to the house and have been reading, sipping wine and making a few phone calls. On Saturday we will drive 400 km to visit our other friends in Saillans - another breath-taking town! Not sure what we'll do tomorrow but surely we will start the morning with a trip to the boulangerie to get some bread and to the épicerie to get a bit of cheese. Bonne nuit!
