Well, I am back in Crocq after 2 very nice and busy days in Limoges. Somehow I caught a cold over here and have not been feeling very energetic but that didn't stop us from checking out Limoges and shopping! On our way to Limoges on Wednesday morning we stopped in a town called Bourganeuf. They had a market happening and, of course, we had to check that out as well as the church and the old chateau. We had a nice lunch of "fondu Creusoise" which is bassically an omelette that you pour delicious melted cheese over. Very good but not something you'd want to eat everyday! We arrived in Limoges at around 2:30. When mom and I first got there we drove around for a bit trying to find our hotel. The way they have the streets in these big, old cities really discombobulates your sense of direction (if you actually have one!) and luck is what you need to count on! Luckily, we had a city map and eventually we stopped and recalibrated our directions and finally found the hotel. It was called the Hotel de la Paix and it was minutes from the train station and from
the Tourist Office, many interesting sights AND great shopping 😊 (I just remembered that I forgot to take any photos of the wonderful gramophone and phonograph collection in the hotel😞 ) Of course, we saw the cathedral and a few other fine churches. Limoges has many interesting things to see and it also has some lovely old 1/2 timbered houses. We haven't seen many of those until we got to Limoges. We had a couple of lovely dinners and some light lunches while we were there but the most fun thing we did was shop! We found some great deals, too! We wanted to check out one of the porcelain manufacturers that Limoges is famous for and so we hopped ona bus and went to one calle Bernardaud. It was an easy bus ride, just one bus, but, unfortunately, when we got there, they told us there were no guides available for a tour and the prices of the porcelain was prohibitively high. So, it was a disappointment. On the way back to the hotel on the bus, I was feeling really dragged out so mom jumped off the bus and did a bit more shopping and I went to
the hotel to sleep. Needless to say, mom found a number of porcelain shops that were more favourably priced and she was able to buy some Limoges procelain that she was determined to buy! We had a nice dinner last night at an Italian restaurant - the pizza was amazing! (pizzas in France are very different and very delicious!) - and went back to the hotel and had an early night as mom had to catch her train this morning at 7 am. We got up at 6 am, I went and got the car and dropped her off at the station and then I headed directly back to Crocq. It was a nice, calm and low-traffic drive and now I am going to go lay down and try to make up for my lack of sleep last night!
